Chocolate Gravy:

1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 cups whole milk

Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa. Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and whisk well to remove lumps. Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits.

Embarrassed to say I've never even heard of this. I've lived in Alabama my whole life. Bookmarked the recipe and will try it soon.

Thanks.

I'm from North Alabama and I've never heard of it.

And since everybody's logic on the white BBQ sauce is it looks like Mayo it must taste like Mayo. I will say the Chocolate Gravy must taste like shite.

Nah jack.... You can't compare the sweets with the non sweets.

Chocolate>Kayro and butter>molasses

Sawmill > brown

Red eye is just sawmill with coffee pretty much.

Kinda news to me that its regional, honestly. But then again, I've never seen it on a menu somewhere.

But every kid I grew up with knows exactly what chocolate gravy is. Western NW Arkansas grown here.

From what I gather it spreads from Arkansas through northern Mississippi into NW alabama. Interesting.... Nonetheless... Chocolate gravy is awesome and I feel bad for those that have never tried it.

I don't even like chocolate chip pancakes. Doubt I would enjoy chocolate gravy on biscuits.

I've tried White Bbq sauce though. It was ok, but not a fan.

You just don't understand man.

I think my mom might have melted in some Hershey chocolate bars as well, her's was a darker color. I remember we'd often have s'mores that night if she made chocolate gravy in the morning. That recipe is gold as is without adding additional chocolate, but a little more chocolate couldn't be a bad thing.

Almost always only a Sat. morning thing to eat after cartoons and before wrasslin'.

Yeah, it's a special thing. Saturday or Sunday mornin'. It goes back a couple of generations. I know my grandmas made it, too.

My grandma made it every Sunday morning before church if us kids had spent the night over and on Christmas morning for sure. My cousins would even put it on their eggs (ok, but not my fav). Awesome on biscuits though.

Another thing my Grandpa did with his waffles has whip up a peanut butter and honey mix.

I've never seen my dad have waffles without doing this.

In my earlier days of not having 2 nickels to rub together when I went back to school a little Peanut Butter and Maple Syrup together was a decent snack. Spread it on some toast for a cheap white trash breakfast

I love peanut butter on my waffles with syrup. Never tried honey. PB and syrup is fricking delicious though.

I just moved to Nashville from DFW 3 weeks ago. I work on Broadway, and I went to Jack's for lunch. I mixed the Carolina sauce and white sauce on my pork sandwich.

You can't get that in Texas.
