Damn. We at least have enough of us good Northern folk here in the ATL to not make a mess like that in snow.
I will admit - I talked to my mom, told her how people were stranded, etc. She asked how much snow we have, and I told her 2 inches. Dead silence. Then, "what?"
But, there is no snow removal equipment, and people aren't used to it so they're panicking.

They said that they were pulling all EMA resources from the state to bring them to BHAM and surrounding areas to help aid those people stranded.
Not sure how fast they can get here, those stranded folks are going to need them.

Main problems with snow and ice here, is:
1. The hills and terrain.
2. It's so rare, it's not prepared for like in northern states. Roads aren't salted, only sand is applied when there's a risk of it.

Didn't realize many of the faceless people on here live in Trussville too. Scary.

Gov. Deal has now issued a state of emergency for the state of Georgia.

Some kids in Gwinnett County may have to spend the night at school, people are running out of gas and slowing up traffic even more, and some are abandoning their cars and walking home.
Only in the deep south does this happen.

Bad planning IMO. You have to be prepared for everything.
Not that I care. This is the first real snow I've seen in a couple of years. I'm loving it.

it is great to be prepared for everything but when this stuff might happen once a decade it isn't the most responsible spending to have that shite laying around.
of course if not being prepared cost more than it would to have all that stuff and not use it then you could justify actually having it all.

last real snow I remember is Christmas 2010 or the night Auburn won the NC.

i think the last time it snowed/iced here before friday was around 2010. Even in that nothing was really shut down, I do remember around 08 things shut down for a storm like this.

Oh, I get why there is no equipment for snow removal. It just turns something that seems minor into mass hysteria.
My roommate is still stranded.

It snowed far worse than this right before I moved to Atlanta. That was like three years ago. The city was shut down for several days.

Exactly. It costs far more to the city to be shut down because of snow than to be prepared and take care of the snow.

People didn't listen warnings were given days in advance.
I have my snow boots handy think I will truck it down to Whole Foods for dinner.

People are literally abandoning their cars here inside the city. That's how slowly traffic is moving.
On Northside Drive it's moving about one mile an hour at this point. That's a fairly major road.
