Yeah, and I'm sure google would reveal there are Jews who sport the swastika for various reasons. There are always outliers.

I don't like the blanket statement of "Anyone who flies that flag is a racist, redneck, bigoted a-hole". Because it's far from the truth.

I agree with this.

However, I'd posit that those who cling to it now in spite of it's sordid connotations in 2015 are insensitive. Or are just living in an enabling bubble where its display is deemed ok.

As a guy who felt the flag did need to come down from the statehouse grounds in Columbia, this is getting way over the top.

The flag wasn't associated with the Charleston shootings. I bet half these people who know about the shootings don't know who Dylan Roof is. Everyone's pissed off at the wrong thing.

Nah, it's more like something that a lot of folks have had a problem with for awhile now suddenly had intense light shined upon it.

I honestly don't have a problem with that flag coming down from any state house.

I do think that the Atlanta NAACP chapter trying to get the mural sand blasted off of the side of Stone Mountain is going a bit far though. Apparently most black people agree as well.

This is the truth. And if we are the country we say we are and we tell people we stand for, we don't keep around a flag that stood for the right to enslave a different race of people. It isn't rocket science. I wish people would stop fighting it so hard when it's so blatantly obvious.

Neither do I. Where I'm from that flag is associated with redneck trash and white power morons.

If you want that flag back, then yins shouldn't have passed it on to the lowest common denominator.

If it was such a proud flag based on history, then how in the frick did it get hijacked by the morons of the world?

I would like to add that if they are really celebrating their "southern heritage, as they say, shouldn't they be flying the actual flag of the confederacy instead of the battle flag of Northern Virginia. You know, the flag that was later adopted by white supremacists everywhere?

Not according to the Union, but both states passed ordinances of secession and the confederate government recognized both states as members of the CSA as evidenced by the participation of Missouri and Kentucky representatives in the confederate government. Maryland and Delaware however stayed firmly in the Union.

The reps you speak of were like 5 guys in the southwest portion who wanted to secede. Confederacy obviously wanted missouri, so they recognized those delegates. A vast majority just wanted to stay out of it, or support the Union.

I just hate that the most aesthetically pleasing flags have such negative connotations associated with them.

The confederate and nazi flags look badass, especially the nazi flag. Red and black with the swastika is a powerful design...I'm not even sure why but for some reason it just captivates the mind

I've seen more Confederate flags flying in the last month than I have in years.

I assume it's a backlash to South Carolina removing theirs, but don't know it as a fact.

I actually agree with this. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the confederate flag is extremely good looking. In a vacuum, I like it. It's a killer design.

Unfortunately, though, the only reason for flags is representation. And based on that particular banner's white supremacist advent, anti-Union cause, and eventual rallying point as stubbornness against civil rights, I obviously can't support it in good conscience.

Which is indeed a shame from an aesthetic standpoint.

Not shocking, hardly anyone knows what the American Revolution was about.

Bottom line -- most people are stupid as frick.

Rather than just throw weak insults around, how about educating the board? I'd love to know what the he'll you're talking about in regards to the confederate flag and the revolutionary war.
