Take a class. That's where I like to meet new people. I've discovered I'm more likely to meet people with similar interests there. It works.

Get a dog. Definitely makes up for the time I'm not out with my friends and keeps me busy.

Umm, these two things don't really jive.

I've found that people that watch little to no TV are higher quality individuals. It's really nice being able to have a conversation with a person about something other than television.

That's assuming you're not just filling up your prescribed American TV time with porn.

ETA: That being said, be prepared to have a few conversations with chicks about shitty tv shows.

You could also get a part time job. May as well make some extra money during your down time.

Also, realize that eating at the bar (or whatever they have at most restaurants) is a shorter wait than waiting for a table and you'll mean some other people that are doing the same. There are generally higher quality people at a restaurant bar than a bar bar and eating alone is always a good conversation starter, since they're likely doing the same.

I'm married and I travel for a living and love going to bars and restaurants alone. I will take a book and go to a bar and be giddy.

I'm pretty anti social but don't particularly enjoy sitting in a hotel room alone.

I think getting into fishing, golfing, biking, marathons would be awesome. I'm in better shape than I've been in a decade, but I do exercise and hobbies far less than I want.

Don't waste your youthfulness.

I mean I got a few on the line but nothing I would want to be around too much. Although I drink regularly I'm not going to a bar by myself, that's ridiculous.

You honestly sound gay. Keep sitting at home alone being depressed and asking the Internet for help.

So you are saying that going to a bar alone is the only thing I could do? I am social most nights of the week with friends but there are some where I obviously just get off work and go home.

Chill man, I was just started a post to see what others in the same boat do. Why are you so mad?

Honestly, this isn't a bad answer.

Volunteer

Drink night out once a week 4 cocktails and dinner at an upscale watering hole.

write an article for a business magazine.

Do one thing different every week on a different day doesn't matter what but, document it.

Buy a hat.

You will be happily engaged in six months tops....

I'm out messing around in the gardens, horse riding, etc. Occasionally I go visit a buddy who's miserable in his marriage, kids getting in all kinds of trouble - just to remind me what I'm missing.

I'm always amazed at how many people have literally zero hobbies.

I've turned into a person with zero hobbies, and it sucks.

I've got a half finished HO Railroad track that has moved to the garage, a RC Airplane that's never flown in the garage, and I haven't flown an actual plane as often as I'd like.

shite fricks your hobbies up, bad. While you've got time make the hobbies important enough to not discard when the first thing comes up.

Meh. Too many people get too caught up in trying to get "important things" done. The reality is it can wait (most of the time). I would go crazy if all I did was work and then come home. My mental and physical health would go to shite and that's really what's important.

You really wouldn't.

I worked for 60+ hours for a decade, my chick puts 70+ in weekly. It's just normal.

We don't go crazy, we don't do anything exciting, we just live. Make a lot of money, but live.

It's crazy how adaptable people are. You're capable of much more than you think, you just have to decide if you want to or if it's worth it to.

ETA: It's not worth it to us, but it took a lot to get us out, and she's still not out.

I'm just not made for that kind of lifestyle. I'm a really active person and the only reason I work is to pay my rent and fund my hobbies. I don't really care about "getting ahead". No way in hell would I or could I work 60-70 hours a week. That's not how we were meant to live IMO.
