Maybe we need to add to the population at Gitmo instead of releasing them.

You can't deport Americans. You couldn't deport Mateen. He's an American citizen. It's not illegal to be a supporter of radical Islam. You have to actually commit a hate crime/terrorist act to be a criminal for those beliefs.

You just pointed out the exact problem we are facing. In the Guantanamo Bay example, we are able to hold those detainees indefinitely because they are not U.S. citizens.

In the case of Mateen, the FBI was aware he was saying stupid shite, that was a credible threat. We couldn't do anything with him as he's a U.S. citizen and the standard is too strict (let him go if we can't convict him of a crime under U.S. law).

What I am suggesting is that we are going to have to make a wartime exception specifically for domestic terrorists that are doing things like pledging allegiance to ISIS on social media.

I will say this. Something needs to be done. Right now. But if we walk over Constitutional rights to do it now, then later, it will be us with no more rights.

We need to stop all this immigration. All the Muslims being allowed into the US en masse are going to bring us to a bad place one day sooner than most think. It will cause a civil war, because when the occasional horrible news story becomes a legitimate everyday threat to you and me, we aren't going to lay down for it. I know I won't.

If you believe that fundamentalist Muslims have the capability to wipe us off the map, I feel sorry for you. They have the capability to kill some of us, but if the Soviets couldn't destroy us, Islamic radicals can't either.

We are doing exactly what Osama Bin Laden expected us to do. He predicted that our reaction to sporadic attacks would eventually destroy and bankrupt us, and I believe he is correct.

We are destroying what we stand for when we succumb to fear. How can we lecture the world when we ourselves become tyrants? And how can our economy sustain the cost of perpetual war and the all encompassing surveillance apparatus?

If we allow ourselves to abandon our principles merely to create a false sense of safety, we have already lost the War on Terror.

I don't think stopping immigration wholesale or banning all Muslims is a realistic goal.

We need to focus on just terrorists and any new law needs to be narrowly tailored as possible to avoid constitutional problems.

The 2nd Amendment has been qualified a bit with gun regulations and is not absolute. It looks like they are about to pass a new law further restricting gun sales vs background check loopholes and adding no sales to people on terrorist lists or no-fly lists.

We will have to do the same in relation to the 1st Amendment, but specific to domestic terrorists only. Otherwise people like Mateen can show us warning signs and threaten shite all day long, and the FBI will just have to sit by until they blow something up.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the deportation and incarceration with Executive Order 9066
He should have been impeached for that. It should have gone to the Supreme court, but nobody had the balls to challenge it.
