While what you say is probably true, the willingness of this country to turn a blind eye to mental illness is disturbing (pun intended).

Won't watch. Ever. Please don't post shite like this, and do yourself a favor and not watch murder videos, beheading videos, or any of the rest of the evil shite that evil people videotape to spread their evil POV, and other callous and awful people upload to their websites for ad dollars.

No one said you had to click or respond to this thread. If it offends you move on. Sweeping society's ills under the rug is part of the issue.

No, but stupid assholes who post gratuitous murder videos on message boards deserve to be called out.

I'm sure you posted this to draw attention to mental illness, not because you're too callous to feel empathy or even a modicum of respect for two people who were murdered in public.

I'm sure LiveLeak or whoever else did it for those reasons too--to spread mental health awareness. Not for clicks and their associated ad-revenue shekels.

Sad but true.

Until the public tunes out the media feeding frenzy the networks will not change the programming.

I get no money for posting anything here. Someone who would go to the point of posting a POV while doing something like this is the entire point of the problem with mental illness in this country.

Side note, internet name calling is pretty pathetic.

Edit, but I did give it some thought and decided to remove the link based on the points you so gruffly made. Oh and I am not a stupid a-hole, just an a-hole. I have my doctorate.

Not wanting to watch the video, nor see it posted somewhere is far from sweeping society's ills under the rug.

Posting the video is giving the guy exactly what he wants, and is an insult to the dignity of the victims and their families. Show some goddamn empathy and try to envision ow you'd feel were that your mom, sister, brother, spouse, etc. in that video being shot. Would you want it plastered all over the internet for the world to see?

Yes, we have a huge problem with how we deal with mental illness in this country. We also have a huge problem with gun violence. Posting the video does nothing to help either problem.

I agree with this. My point is that you don't have to click or comment the thread.

Yes I would, people need to understand that ignoring mental illness is an issue. If it would motivate someone get to get help, or be more concerned about someone they feel is troubled, then yeah I would.

Agree

Agree. And sometimes we just have a problem with racists who have been conditioned to perceive every failure of their own as one as being discriminated against. Being selfish, hating another race and committing violence isn't a mental disorder. It's pure hate and evil. And it's not limited to just whites. Every race has these people.

Vester Flanagan (aka Bryce Williams)

"Vester was an unhappy man," WDBJ general manager Jeff Marks said on the air, just before noon on Wednesday.

"He quickly gathered a reputation as someone who was difficult to work with.... He was looking for people to say things he could take offense to," Marks added.

After numerous incidents of anger, WDBJ dismissed him. "He did not take that well. We had to call the police to escort him from the building," Marks said.

After his dismissal, Flanagan filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but the EEOC found no evidence of anything unbecoming and "dismissed the claim out of hand."

Sure, and I'm not even convinced this guy was mentally ill. He definitely had a victim complex, and I did look at his Facebook profile earlier and it was pretty creepy. I don't know if that makes him mentally ill, but something is off with him beyond just hatred of white people. I don't think a mentally stable person records him or herself shooting people dead in cold blood, and posts that video on social media.

But I'm not a mental health professional.

He isn't mentally ill. He is evil.

We seem to try and mask evil as an illness.

Change racists to people and you just NAILED the single biggest problem we face.

I truly believe it is the result of the entitlement & everybody gets a trophy mentality that's been taking over the country for the last few decades. People are conditioned early on that they deserve things merely because they're here on the planet, to just try their best and we will all be winners, and if something bad happens it wasn't your fault.

Then at some point, they meet the real world were we're not (and never will be) all equal and we're not all winners. Somebody else makes more money. Somebody else gets the girl. Sometimes you don't get or can't keep that job.

To put it simply, sometimes you lose and that concept is simply too much to bear because they've been told differently all their lives.

We get images of that from across the world every day. I think mentally stable person is perhaps used here, instead of a more accurate description of.. morally balanced.

His "manifesto" was posted on the OT. It seems he attributes today's shooting to church shooting in SC, Ferguson.. etc.. and that he's been a time bomb waiting to go off. By his own admission, he knew exactly what he was doing and where he was headed. He was rational and aware. He chose hate and evil above all else. Mental illness shouldn't even come close to the discussion on this shooting. Imho, naturally.

quote:

He continues, “As for Dylann Roof? You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!” He said Jehovah spoke to him, telling him to act.

Later in the manifesto, the writer quotes the Virginia Tech mass killer, Seung Hui Cho, and calls him “his boy,” and expresses admiration for the Columbine High School killers. “Also, I was influenced by Seung–Hui Cho. That’s my boy right there. He got NEARLY double the amount that Eric Harris and Dylann Klebold got…just sayin’.

In an often rambling letter to the authorities, and family and friends, he writes of a long list of grievances. In one part of the document, Williams calls it a “Suicide Note for Friends and Family”.

--He says has suffered racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work. --He says he has been attacked by black men and white females. --He talks about how he was attacked for being a gay, black man

“Yes, it will sound like I am angry...I am. And I have every right to be. But when I leave this Earth, the only emotion I want to feel is peace....”

“The church shooting was the tipping point…but my anger has been building steadily...I’ve been a human powder keg for a while…just waiting to go BOOM!!!!”.
