I'm glad my great great grandfather fought for the other side and I don't have to be associated with this.
I've got some great news for you. Due to modern technology, you no longer need to be associated with this in any way. In fact, you weren't forced to notice, click, listen, or read any of it, I don't think? So, why don't you carry your arse and not be "associated" with it, problem solved.
Btw, I can assure you, from the research I've done on this, if your great, great, gramps was really there, he most certainly had shite running down his legs from hearing "it". I'm sure he would appreciate your well wishes.

It's funny how the rebel yell carries on through generations in the south. We used to do it a lot in HS football, especially while stretching pre game when it was quiet
So true. Not so much during pregame stretch for us, but after the National Anthem and the band cut loose with DIXIE, both sides of the field were on their feet, Rebel Yelling, with cheerleader dancing.
It was an emotional event.

One side was allowed to print money with no interest, use foreign born men, and other inherent advantages.
For all intensive purposes, the South won the fighting, the North stole the war.

Thank God. It would suck if there were two Americas today.

Slavery would have been gone pretty quickly anyway, regardless of who won the war.
Just sayin.

DGAF. Couldn't happen fast enough.
Plus the south needed to receive their comeuppance anyways. No more of this secession shite.

I think a realistic understanding of the war would change this stance.
But each their own.

There is nothing inherently wrong with secession, in many ways secession is completely within the spirit of the Constitution and the principles of the Founding Fathers. People should be free to exercise their right to choose who governs them, anything else is tyranny. The idea that if 2/3rds of the people within a state vote to leave but should be forced to stay by force is a frightening one. It certainly flies in the face of modern civilization where provinces, territories, and states separate from their home country to self govern all the time.
Slavery was wrong and is a blight on the history of this country but slavery was still legal in several Union states. It's also not as if the way the war was conducted and slavery ended resulted in a great lifestyle improvement for many former slaves up until WWII. They just changed the name to "sharecropper".

Is your family from South Carolina? If so, your grandfather was a traitor and a coward
Posted on 2/26/15 at 12:23 pm to OBReb6

Nah, it takes approximately 4 Yankee grandfathers to beat up 1 Rebel grandfather. Not to mention the conscripted Irish slaves they have fighting with them too.

It warms my heart to see someone at peace with such a disability, after all, there is lots of bland food to be eaten and manly women to be loved.

I'm sure you've really researched the facts, the stats, the truths of the numbers. I'm also sure that if you did, you'd know that your gg grampy and a hundred of his northern friends were terrified of a couple old boys without shoes, one rifle and 3 rounds between them.
Yes, we all know the result of the war.. Carry on, great, great grandson, mighty warrior.
