Meh. To be prejudice when it comes to something like skin color is absurd. You can't help what color you are.

You certainly can help obesity, tattoos, smoking, etc. Those things tell a lot about an individual far more than skin color.

It's in Spanish but I'll try to translate to the best of my ability.

Beginning text basically just says: Racism and discrimination exist in Mexico of all different types (says stuff like Culture, clothing, skin color, all the physical stuff). Anyway, it's all pretty easy to understand: Discrimination exists.

First girl is asked: Which one is dark, which one is white? (Muneco means doll) Points to the correct one, I guess it's a test question to make sure they know white vs. dark.

The first boy is asked: Which baby is nice?

He points to the white.

Second boy is asked: Which one is ugly?

Points to the black.

Next two kids: Which kid is bad?

Both identify the black.

She asks "Why?"

Kid says: Because this one is dark and this one is white.

(Moreno literally means dark-skinned)

Which one is ugly (again)?

Dark one identified.

Why?

I don't like browns.

Anyway it goes on for about four minutes, displaying that whites are apparently not the only racist group on the planet as some would love you to believe.

Feo, malo, bonito (in order) Ugly, bad and nice.

I'll be honest, the only time I'll ever call a black man or Latino a ****** is when:

1.) Initially prejudice against me
2.) Commits acts towards me or my family that are far from socially or lawfully acceptable.

Otherwise, I have nothing against anyone. I accept any and all races that are just average, everyday people that go about their business and not interfere with me or my family etc. in a violent or initially prejudiced way.

If I'm in the wrong please tell me, anybody.

In a vacuum without knowing any better people are going to be more inclined to interact with their own race, as these babies have shown. It's not necessarily racism, just how humans naturally interact.

The way you view things is because you have conditioned yourself to make a point to interact with everyone of all races, as have I and most others in this country. It's good for society as a whole.

Agreed so far as to color. Now, Where is the line drawn between liking something more as opposed to disliking something worse?

It's all in the attitude and posture asserted into the situation.

Prejudice against those not like us is ingrained into our biology. Everyone is "racist" to some degree. There is no shame in being apprehensive about certain people or cultures, because it is how we evolved. Being untrustworthy and thinking differently about other groups was vital to our survival for thousands and thousands of years.

The difference between racists and non-racists isnt the presence of prejudice, its knowledge and enlightenment. Racists choose to feed their prejudice and allow it to turn to hatred and fear.

Shermer explained this pretty well when he talked about a Type 1 and Type 2 error. Type 1 is assuming the grass moving a certain way is a predator. If you're wrong, you were still prepared.

Type 2 is assuming that there is no predator in the grass moving. If you're wrong, you're lunch.

Discriminating against those who don't look like us is Type 1, and can be adjusted for.

I think the problem lies in overadjusting: Some people exaggerate the faults, but some people exaggerate the "good" portions, going out of there way to accept someone who has not earned it yet based solely on skin color or other cultural perceptions.

I'm proud to be white, FWIW..

but I don't think I'm racist. Other races are and should be proud too.. Purto Ricans take it to a whole notha level.

People arent born hating and making concious judgements, but they do naturally learn at a young age to be wary of those not like what they are used to and IF ALLOWED TO GROW can become overt racism and hatred.

The difference between you and a Klansman isnt as great as you'd like to believe. Simple accidents of birth are all that seperate you. You were raised to believe prejudice should be suppressed and you should treat others as equals, they werent.

That's fairly general too. Some people aren't raised in environments that would cause them to learn racism. Some become that way after traumatic events with other races. This can happen late in adult life. To place blame on how they were raised is simplifying and not always the case.

I don't disagree. But one can harbor a desire to gravitate torwards those more like them without also feeling a sense of racial superiority or hatred for people with another color of skin. That is simply predudice. Not racism.

Could be a black person that would walk into a party with 80% black and 20% white and just naturally gravitate to a group of black people for conversation! given he knew no one beforehand. That same guy might interact and be friends with just as many whites in his normal life. In the case of the party, his natural predudice leaned torwards making him more comfortable in approaching black people. He subconsciously exercised predudice which in no way equates to conscious racism.

It's regrettable that a major university would do such a flawed study. I say flawed because the obvious theme of the study centers on race and an implied innate racism.

There is only one race. The human one. If the Neanderthals and Denisovans were still extant, then we could say there are different races. Every single living human is a Homo sapiens sapiens.

The UW researchers used 15-month-old toddlers, not infant babies, in their study. These children had plenty of time to orient to their parents. Another study using adopted children, whose parents look very different from them, would debunk this study in a heartbeat.

As Cat said, "People aren't born racist. They're born into racist families that ingrain that shite into them from an early age, which is just sick."

I think he's inferring what I stated. Some aren't born into racist families or taught to be racist in their tendencies at home. That's just a blanket statement, that generalizes. Are most a result of that? Possibly. But there are other reasons people end up that way in life, besides their home life.
