mostly agree.

What bugs me the most are those family members that text you to find out what you want for Christmas . I tell them to get me something that you think I would enjoy. Share that. Don't make it seem that you are annoyed with getting me a gift. Get creative and have some fun with it.

My family sets a $50 limit on each other, and gift cards are not allowed so it's enjoyable. For the adults, at least. My kids rack up from my parents and siblings.

My wife's family goes way overboard, but they're rich AF. My wife asks me every year what I want from her mom and dad and the limit is $2000. It always makes me uncomfortable. To that end, I agree with OP. I rarely get anything I just can't live without.

Ditto. My wife and I had literally never heard of this until one of her sorority sisters convinced her it was a real thing.

I should also add that said sorority sister has no kids of her own, no nephews or nieces and isn't married.
