Last year we lived in Atlantic Station. We got wine, went over to the 17th Street Bridge, and watched the chaos on the Connector.

Or heat. Yanks start dying up north when the temperatures approach 90.

Truth.

I lived in Connecticut when "Hurricane" Bob hit there. This was the year after Hugo ransacked SC. The Navy base in Groton, CT took all of the subs out to sea and submerged them or either submerged them at the docks, everyone had boarded up windows, businesses closed, stores sold out of everything.

Wind never got above 40 mph, never any thunder and lightening, and just a light steady rain. A typical Southern rainshower. Didn't even qualify as a mild thunderstorm here. I LMAO at them.

Yankees laugh at us not being able to drive in the snow, but when they get down here they realize it isn't the snow but the ice that makes it bad. Ain't nobody gonna be driving on a glaze of ice.

What has screwed Atlanta (and the south) in the last few big snow events is that we get a layer of ice down first and then get snow on top of it.

Also, people can't take the rail/subway to work like they can in the northeast or Chicago...

Doesn't Atlanta have a decent Marta System? At least that's something...

It's decent for getting downtown but it requires people to drive to a station to park, meaning that people are still in cars.

Not really. It's ok for occasional use but it can't accommodate the number of people it would need to in this kind of scenario. It's rail system has little to no reach OTP which is where all the commuters that clog ATL's roads live.

Yeah, Marta is good for those of us who live ITP. It'll take me anywhere that I need to go. Those OTP... not so much.

Problem is, unless you live within a mile of a MARTA station and your work is within a mile you are going to have to get into a car, which throws you into the storm traffic issues.

Well, for those that have to drive.., take it easy on the roads. As you know, Ice is worse than snow, so take your time.

I'm at about 2, and I'd be fine walking if a Snowpocalypse situation arose again, but my office is in the public transit death zone of Cobb Galleria, so I'm done for.

Yea, 50% of the people running off roads and into ditches during Snowpocalypse in Atlanta last year were originally from Connecticut or Illinois.

Living in the north I hear people make fun of southerners all the time when it comes to snow and ice on the road. My experience here tells me they're not much better at driving in those conditions. They always seem to forget that any time 2+ inces of snow drop that there are hundreds/thousands of plowing/salting trucks on the road. Any time there is a delay in plowing (or the rate at which the snow is falling is faster than the plows can keep up with) you see cars in ditches and multi-car pile ups all over the roads.

eta: ice doesn't seem to be nearly as common as it did when I lived in the Carolinas.

Don't a lot of northerners also own personal snow plows that they hook up to the front of their trucks to help clear roads?
