Pal's Sudden Service, normally called Pal's for short, is a regional fast food restaurant chain located in northeast Tennessee and southwestern Virginia, with stores concentrated in the Tri-Cities, Tennessee metro region. The first Pal's opened in 1956 in Kingsport, Tennessee a year after the founder of Pal's, Fred "Pal" Barger, attended a National Restaurant Convention in Chicago and met Ray Kroc and Fred Turner, observing the construction and equipment they used for the first McDonald's restaurant.

I've been gone from NE Tenn for 4 years now. I miss Pal's.

Anybody here know wtf I'm talking about?

Figured so.

Not sure why I make these threads.

I'm a failure.

Yes, those are familiar sites.

And the chain continues to grow, slowly and now is as far to the southwest as Morristown.

Remember Chili Buns? And peach tea?

I've encountered Pal's locations as I travel through JC & Kingsport quite a lot. Have never been in. But I know what you're talking about.

Two links that tell a lot:

and this could also tell you why it's a success locally

This line from (ahem, you're supposed to be impressed by) THE Harvard Business Journal

But Pal’s is not just absurdly fast. It is also staggeringly accurate.
turnover rates extremely low

My only experience with Pal's was it giving me diarrhea prior to a soccer game in a tournament I played in in Kingsport many years ago. I had to go into the woods to piss it out my butt.

Hell yes. My parents were born and raised in Kingsport, TN. Spent many a Thanksgiving up there and we would always make a trip to Pal's for a milky-shake.
