If you mean people who have respect for the law and those in the Criminal Justice System doing the best they can with the laws we want as a society, yes I guess you are right

In other words, people who pretend to want liberty and freedom and justice for all, as long as you do exactly what authority figures tell you to do.
Nearly everyone in my family has worked for the government at the local, state or national level.
None of them share the same views as the people who "supposedly" support the criminal justice system here.

300 days in jail? Holy frick, I can't see how anyone agrees with that.
He didn't just pop off with 300 days.
From the video:
Started with 30 for contempt when he explained to her that she couldn't go back to her victim's house. She busted out an "How can you tell me I can't go home?" he told her "I just did" and she said "Well I bet I do". Just complete defiance of a judge's standard order with a domestic violence order pending.
When he told her she was in contempt for thirty days she shrugged and said something (wasn't real clear on the video) and walked away from the judge before he dismissed her.
He tells her to "get back" and then she proceeds to keep running her mouth to the judge. He then gives her 60 days. She responds with "So what?". He then gives her 90 days. She breaks out a "So?". He then gives her 120 days. She then responds with "Okay? And?". He then gives her 180 days. She then tries to walk away get and you hear her say "Get off me" off the screen (my guess is to the bailiff). She comes back into the screen and says to the judge, "What else you got to say?". The judge says, "Nothing, we'll talk in 6 months when you're ready to come back for your case". She says, "Well bye" goes off screen and the exchange continues. She throws some profanity at the judge and ends up getting to 300 days.
Normally I'd say it shouldn't have happened. And I won't argue that the judge shouldn't have lost his cool. But given that she doesn't give a shite about her assault charge and clearly has no intention of following the order, then she got everything she had coming to her with the way she showed out in the courtroom.

I work for the government at the state level.
There's a real lack of accountability in the court system for offenders. It's part of the reason I have kids at work who get a day in juvey and some community service for shoving a teacher to the ground and kicking him while he's down there.

We've become immune to throwing people away. Prison makes people worse, not better. Losing your freedom for 300 days for mouthing off should never happen in a supposedly "free" country.
What's more appalling, how many people believe it's a good thing.

You're talking about the juvenile justice system.
If an adult pushes someone to the ground and kicks them, they get more than a day in jail and community service.
And I agree with your premise of the lack of accountability, but giving this one woman 300 days won't change shite. It's the mindset of some in our society at this point that is the issue.
But why would they respect authority when authority has no respect for them?

Why does the daily mail have so many stories about the US?
Posted on 8/24/14 at 5:09 pm to Manzielathon
Well then how about the parents who regain custody of their children after only spending limited time in custody for child abuse charges?
Why should authority have an respect for them when, in this particular case, the woman didn't even have respect for her grandfather who was putting her up?
So what's your solution? Allow it to happen? I see comments like this but I have yet to see anyone put up a viable solution to dealing with people like what we saw in the video.

Here's my issue. She openly threatened to go back to the home of the victim she assaulted despite a judge's order not to do so. Where's the respect for the victim? Say he had not held her in contempt and she went back to the home of the victim and killed him (which unfortunately happens with things like EPOs all the time)? It was a bit more than just mouthing off.
And as I said earlier, what's the solution?

I agree, it's overkill. Of course she has to face some sort of consequence, as it's the system we live in, but lengthen her time in counseling/anger management and make her do some community service or something. 300 days in jail does nothing for her or the taxpayer.

They gave her 30 days. She wasn't going anywhere.

And would she actually serve thirty days or would it be a bunch of that "you're out on good behavior in 7" type bullshite. Which is also part of the problem.

300 days to learn humility. Sounds like something that might happen in Saudi Arabia.
And people support this, which is why we have this little problem.
Land of the free....

It sure as shite isn't excessive jail time.
My issue isn't her being sentenced to time. My issue is the amount of time. It's ridiculous and indefensible in this supposedly free country.
As someone else stated we've become way too immune to throwing people in jail and locking away the key, when we should be trying to work through the actual issues, not creating more.
As far as a solution? You can't fix stupid. It is what it is, but a Judge getting so butthurt they want to throw away someones life is an a lot bigger issue than someone disrespecting authority.

Nah she's a victim in all this. I bet the judge wouldn't give a white girl 300 days.
