I have a neighborhood/city I would live in for just about every city, should I have my own pick... I decided a while ago that Decatur would be my pick if I were going to live in/near Atlanta.

I hate you. I'm ready to be back at the beach but we can't go again until after the boyfriend sits for the bar in July.
I don't hit up Destin much though. I prefer the Seaside, Seagrove, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach area.

I grew up in Decatur. Decatur/DH/Avondale used to be great. Clean, educated normal middle class families mostly made up of Emory employees like my parents. It's not like that anymore. It's fricking hipster/yuppie central.
I'm sorry but it's a real shithole compared to what it used to be. I went back to visit my Mom there last September and had to cut my trip short it was so shitty. The one nice thing is that her house is now worth nearly seven times what my parents paid for it even after the recession.
All of that said it's still an improvement over Midtown. Good luck to you and enjoy Decatur's outrageous taxes.

Alexandria or Eastern Market are my DC options, fwiw.
