where the hell did you go in SEMO that doesn't do fried okra? That's absurd. There are restaurants all over the southern half of Missouri that serve fried okra, especially in southeast MO. Hell, I grew up eating fried okra in northwestern Missouri. I'm guessing your story is either an extreme statistical outlier, or bullshite.

I'm in SE Missouri. Not only does the family restaurant not have fried okra as a side option, but the waitress had never heard of it. Okra.

That's because no one up here wants to smell the nasty stank of fried okra.

Except my mom, she ruined okra for me. She used to cook that shite all the time when I was a kid.

Did she cook it with little bits of green tomato in it?

I honestly don't remember, it has been too long. She and my dad loved it. Me and my sisters hated it.

Hwy 63 is the border. Everything East of that is SE MO. This restaurant happens to be on the East side of the road. So, yes. I geography.

Miller's. And the lady had never heard of Okra.

Are you a native Missourian? If not STFU on telling me, who is, where things are and where they should be. If you are, you clearly didn't grow up in southeast mo. Houston Missouri is NOT I repeat NOT southeast Missouri. Poplar Bluff east up to Cape is southeast Missouri. I grew up there I would know. In fact, I will get really precise for you. From the Mississippi River up to Cape and from Cape over to hwy 67 down to the AR border and obviously the bootheel. That my friend is southeast missouri. Screw those people who try to add Farmington and Perryville into the mix and exclude poplar bluff, they are idiots.

C'mon man, don't you think it's time for you to forgive her, and give fried Okra another shot?

can't carry these these things around forever, they will eat you up inside.

We did know you Mississippi folks had educating people issues, but we thought you would at least be able to read map and maybe use a compass.

To far west. You are almost in the center of the state if you use 19 to divide. While technically one side is east and the other is west, culturally the people are not the same. The further west you go the less likely you are to see acres and acres of cotton, soy beans, and corn and are more likely to see cattle or hog farms. The makeup of the land and the makeup of the people are just different. Unless you are from there, you just wouldn't understand...all the other SEMO folks chime in please!
