and that's fine for exporters and scientists and people who that is applicable to. For Joe Everyman on a day to day basis, there's no reason to completely change their way of doing things. I will continue to use feet, miles, etc until I die.
It's not that difficult to change. Every time someone gets a new smartphone, they have to learn more than they would have to learn by switching to the metric system. In fact, they could unlearn a bunch of useless stuff by getting rid of the imperial (British) system.

Dude 3 places behind the decimal freaks people out, let it go

Why would you need more decimal places for metric than imperial?
Posted on 5/8/15 at 2:55 pm to Agforlife
We have notation for that.

No shite I use the metric system regularly but in my observations of those that don't when you get out to that 3rd decimal it freaks people out.
I have to position shite in X,Y and Z to precisions of less than .02 mm routinely and it confuses me from time to time because I grew up on Survey Feet and our imperial system

It's a good thing you don't need to position shite to precisions of less than 0.0007874016 inches.

That and there's no practical equivalent to the foot. The U.S. system is actually more useful when it comes to building houses, etc. The metric system is better/easier for small measurements.

I didn't say it freaked me out, but it does others that I've observed. Machinists it doesn't phase most engineers it doesn't phase carpenters on the other hand

When I used to machine, the general unit used was the thousandth of an inch. Been a while, though,

Yeah it still is here but most of the machinery I have to install was built somewhere in Europe or Asia and it's all metric with those guys it's fun to watch some crusty old millwright argue with a young German engineer over different units of measurement
