What say you? Should we switch to the metric system? Do you like the metric system?

Wnether we want to or not, we are gradually switching to the metric system. Globalization is bringing it into the U.S. on an ever-increasing basis. Our exports are in metric units, too.

The same thing was happening to Britain, where the U.S.'s customary measuring units originated. They switched to metrics but old-timers still use miles, yards, feet and inches.

We already almost exclusively use the metric system in science, medicine, many sectors of industry and some of government. We'll switch over completely sometime this century, I would guess. It's the international thing to do.

Increased efficiency for trade, more logical for education, we already use it for scientific things, Universal measurement worldwide.

The list is forever long.

and that's fine for exporters and scientists and people who that is applicable to. For Joe Everyman on a day to day basis, there's no reason to completely change their way of doing things. I will continue to use feet, miles, etc until I die.

How about so you don't have to have two sets of tools for different systems? So you can change the oil on your car?

Or would you rather tell me about furlongs and fathoms?

A base 10 system would be great for the kids. Easier to use and calculate, and early confidence in math is everything.
