Seems kind of dumb. When I think "dependent on the government" I don't think highly educated federal employees and military personnel. I think leeches that are on welfare and shite.

The author :hack: :cough: tries to imply that the citizens of the so called "Red states" are hypocrites on welfare. Morons think that this map validates his opinion, and we get Obama'd

I am very curious of your background.

Alabama fan, yet Democrat, and not from the south.

I got "Not from the south" when you used they, instead of we, regarding the Red states.

I'm from Virginia and I use "they" when it comes to deep south States. My state was the seat of the Confederacy.

Sure, but we weren't talking about the confederacy and I wouldn't consider Virginia the "deep south" or nearly as red as the Deep South.

ETA: What exactly does the confederacy have to do with any of this? I'm not sure why you would say that...

Born and raised in Alabama to a union working Democrat father, and a right-leaning apolitical mother. Dad moved here from Ohio during the height of the Civil Rights movement and participated in a lot of marches and volunteered at polling places in the Black Belt region.

I actually used to consider myself a Republican. Worshiped Reagan, voted for Dole, and both Bush's, the whole nine yards. That said, I didn't follow politics, or political issues, that closely. Then I graduated college and got out in the real world and started realizing both political parties were full of shite. I don't identify much with the Democrats either, but I admit I am much more critical of the current Republican party. They(and I use "they" somewhat loosely here) have lost their ever loving minds since Obama was elected.

Take the welfare issue. Yes, there is waste and abuse within the welfare system, but it pales in comparison to the waste and abuse within the Dept of Defense. But God forbid anyone mentions doing something about that. There are other examples but I need to get back to work.

Well I will say that I can't necessarily distance myself from that notion because the mother fricker is a POS idiot.

Agreed, but the reason people get their jimmies rustled about Welfare is because the majority of people that take advantage of it are POS that want to sit on their arse and profit on the backs of hard working-tax paying citizens. While there may be waste in the DOD, it isn't looked upon with the same type of animosity.

Thanks for the background man. Definitely gives us insight on why you believe what you do. I say that sincerely, not condescendingly.

Arkansas is also really high up on the scale compared to other southern states and tax burden.

Oh I look at the abuse within the Dept of Defense with much more animosity. Much, much more. It is cronyism at its finest. War is good business for Republicans and their friends, never mind all those dead kids.

How about frick war in general? We have no business sticking our noses where they don't belong and I lost one of my best friends because of it.

War hawks can all die in a fire.
