This will probably be unpopular here, but I think smart gun technology is not bad at all, especially as an option.

Personally, my bigger fear where I live is someone breaking in while I am gone and stealing my stuff. That is one of the reasons I left my shotgun in Alabama at my father's safe.

I would also love to have an optional chip where if my gun got stolen, I could track it. It is worth more than my cell phone and I would love to know if it was stolen I could help the police recover it for me.

The trick is these things should probably be optional.

Sure, except when you go to have fun at the gun range.

This is some Metal Gear Solid video game level shite going on.

I think lots of people have delusions they are Rambo when they are really more like Robin Williams in the Survivors.

Optional is the key word.

Definitely.

I think the legal owner should have a way to disable it. But a lot of gun issues could be alleviated if we could start getting guns out of the hands of criminals. If one stole my gun and got caught --- I would hope that would lead to serious jail time. Do that enough and maybe some criminals will rethink packing.

If it is so much safer, then why do you suppose he hasn't forced the SS guarding his family to use it as an example?

Because they've passed top secret background checks? Do you really not know about security clearances and shite?

How is that relevant? One of those geniuses just had his stuff stolen: gun, badge, radio, everything.

Again why I want a tracker.

I want my stuff back.

Hell I think I want trackers on all my good stuff--- as long the wife does not put one on me.

The problem I see with that, is the Gov't forcing gun manufacturers to provide them with tracking info. So much easier to find who owns firearms then.

Trust is in an issue in this environment, but I would like to think with all the tech today, you could have some sort of way to disable it yourself with some type of owner password.

Again, I am hardly tech literate, it just seems that if you can enable stuff like that on phones, it should be possible for other devices.

Again, if it was much more difficult and the penalties were much harsher for criminals with guns, lots of these issues would go away.

On a tangent, I would also feel safer for some of my younger relatives. My brother in law insists on keeping his guns loaded and in both his nightstands. He has two twin boys (5 years old) and a little girl (8 years old). He says they know not to play with the guns, but my experience is kids will usually do stuff they are told not to do and lie about it later. We have argued about it before. The basic argument goes "MY kids are good." My retort is "So you never have to punish them for doing things you told them not to do?"

I am completely with you with the kid situation. The best way To take away curiosity And trying to play with them Is to educate them And let them handle them Unloaded And then shoot with them so they understand the power. Even after that I would still keep them out of reachUnless I was present

Agreed. I agree with changing some of the loop holes the gun shows are getting away but this "smart" technology is either 1 of 2 things. A way for governments able to move towards having an automatic shut down chip for all civilian weapons in case of civil war. AND/OR a money grab on taxes to research companies who are friendly with the right people in the government.
