Actually, in 1989 the Ebola virus did go airborne in Reston, Virginia just outside of Washington D.C

woman suddenly are capable of asexual reproduction. they discover that they no longer need men to reproduce. within 100 years no men exist on Earth due to the women's tool of death - poisoning. baby boys are killed at birth. earth becomes a planet of women.

It may not really take three vaccinations to develop immunity though. There are no challenge studies like in animal health where the vaccinated animals have to seroconvert after one dose and the control animals die for the vaccines to be licensed. They have to test titers in humans.

It also doesn't have to be expensive.

ETA: If we can distribute edible rabies vaccines for wildlife, surely we could come up with a plan for people.

That isn't the end of humanity then. It's the end of ~half of humanity.

Our domestic animals like cats and dogs suddenly realize that they can kill us in our sleep and rip out all our throats.

Then starve to death because they can't feed themselves.

A disease or mutation affects the Y chromosome and humans become completely insensitive to androgens. All children, whether they are genetically XY male or not, are born female. Humanity dies out once sperm banks are depleted and/or someone has to read a map.

Time is the critical factor, even with vaccines for flu pandemics. The capacity for producing a vaccine for say, the H5N1 bird flu virus which has gone to a pandemic status would be a minimum of 6 months. 3 months to develop the vaccine and switch existing vaccine factories to it and another 3 months to crank out enough for about 600 million doses, the current total capacity for the world's existing labs.

It would take much longer to develop a weaponized rabies vaccine and refit factories to mass produce it.

The Hadron Collider thingie will produce something that will screw up all our physics and we'll fly of into space or time will cease to exist or we'll just simply disappear.

That was actually a fear a lot of people expressed when they learned that the LHC might be able to produce microscopic black holes. It was unfounded, but irrational fears usually are.

Population continues to expand, environment and climate becomes further damaged, fossil fuels start to run out and can no longer prop up the food system which is already stressed by the environmental issues, populations respond to the scarcities with war, someone pushes the button, everything bigger than a bacterium dies in the resulting nuclear winter.

Weird huh?

While that scenario is very probable, I think a Malthusian Collapse is more likely to happen before someone pushes the button.

After all, those with the buttons are more powerful and rich than the buttonless. More of the former would survive than the latter. The Third World are breeding like rabbits and agricultural food production capacity is being stretched to the breaking point.

Something has to give. It will be humans.
