My favorite "bourbon" (yes I know the difference) is Jack but Woodford Reserve is damn fine!

I think Woodford is one of the most overrated bourbons out there, but that's just my opinion. It's good, but not worth the price.

For the price point, and all around drink anytime bourbon, Bulleit is my go to. 1792 isn't a bad one either.

Woodford is good I guess, but it's become kind of trite. It's got that slightly peppery after taste I don't care for much. I kind of lost my taste for it I guess.

Four Roses single barrel is good, I don't care for anything else they put out.

Old Forester single barrel is very smooth as well. Very underrated IMO. Make sure it's the single barrel though

I do not care for rye bourbons at all. My advice is to go to your local store and find stuff in the middle price point and go from there. Some are better straight, some with a drop of water, some with an ice cube, hell I like to put a splash of Ale-8 (Kentucky swamp water) in mine from time to time as well. You can't go wrong unless you're going cheap.

I've been watching Justified on amazon prime, and it got me thinking about bourbon. I haven't had a lot of bourbon, but my favorite that I have had is Woodford Reserve. What are y'all's favorites?

If you've been watching Justified, or just about any show based on an Elmore Leonard novel, or ever read any of his books, then you know that his favorite is Blanton's ... which also happens to be my favorite.

I'm working on my umpteenth set of corks at the moment ... set number twenty or so. I give them away for gifts these days, to help fill-out others' collections that friends have started.

Blanton's is the nectar of the bourbon gods.

ETA: BTW, all of Elmore Leonard's papers are housed at the University of South Carolina - we're pretty proud of having his papers in the Thomas-Cooper Library. He wanted his alongside F. Scott Fitzgerald's. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Leonard when he came down for his visit and was given a private tour of our Cockaboose ... we were hosting an event for my Aunt, who's papers were being given to the Holling's Library that night - and while there, Leonard noted and commented on the bottles of Blanton's in my bar ... unbeknownst to me and other guests at the time, he was dying and graciously declined my offer for a snort.

Anyone who has never tried Blanton's beware, it is addictive.

The yellow label is good for mixed drinks. The small batch is pretty meh. I really enjoyed the tour there when I was there back in October. Them and Maker's Mark do a great job with their tours, as well as Buffalo Trace.

I really like 1792. They said when we toured there they couldn't keep up with demand. It was the only distillery that didn't have their bourbon for sale on site.

There are some good rare or hard to get batches at the distilleries but overall you're much better off just going to the store here if you're wanting to buy bourbon. Much more expensive in those tour gift shops. I like the Woodford Reserve tour alot. Maybe it's just the drive down there through God's country.

Myself, I keep bottles of a few standbys on hand and then I'll pick up something new to try every now and again. It's best to have a couple different bourbon options on hand for guests, or a six pack of Smirnoff Ice if you're having Aggies over.

I work only a couple of miles from the Woodford reserve distillery. Not my thing though, i usually (although not always) prefer a more mellow bourbon.

My favorite: Weller 12 yr (although its impossible to find once people found out it's the same mash as Pappy van Winkle)

Other bourbons i really enjoy: Elmer T Lee, Willett, Wathens.

Yeah, someone tipped us off to not buy the bourbon at the distilleries, though I did buy a couple bottles of the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream. We hit the liquor store at Kroger in Bardstown and probably saved $100 each. Seems it averaged about $10 cheaper there than at the distilleries. The "special" offerings at the distilleries I saw weren't that spectacular. Wild Turkey had some rare bourbon there for like $200. Forget what it was. Maker's had a single barrel cask strength. Jim Beam had some special bottle of Knob Creek, but I forget what made it special.

We got to Woodford just as the last tour of the day had pulled out so we missed it. The drive there was gorgeous though.
