Not many. He was about 13 years too late for that.

My mom lived 15 air miles from Mt St Helens when it blew. But in the opposite direction of the blast (luckily for me). She was in highschool at the time, and "too cool" to wear the masks given out to prevent breathing in ash. At 50 years old she has the lungs of someone who has been smoking for 60 years.
