I'm not going to hold his actions against the rest of the family. Their religion is alien to most of us, but that doesn't make them bad people. I'm more tolerant of things that are alien to me than most, though.
The nicest, most honest, generous and loving person I ever knew had a son who beat a former lover to death looking for crack money. No one I knew would have ever assigned blame to her for her wayward son's behavior.
