Oh, thought you misunderstood my point, and I can definitely see yours being right too.
Current situation of the military, probably means a lot more LDO type situations than ever before.

Also, Having a bachelor's degree, doesn't guarantee becoming an officer.

It does if it's an engineering degree. And I would not touch the USMC with a 10 meter cattle prod.

First off as a 24 year guy active and reserve we would be glad to have you!

That said finish your degree first. The money, living conditions etc are better as as officer.

If you're unsure about the direction in which you want your life to go, by all means join the military. You'll have the chance to explore how you fit in to structure and to gain a lot of self-discipline. I wish our society had a mandatory service requirement for young people.

You seem to be a very intelligent person. Good luck to you in whatever you do.

Engineering? Have you considered the Navy? The Seabees are frickin magicians.

This right here.

Why the hell would you want to join the Marines?

Some of us were in the other services and speak to the dudes who come out of the Marines.

Some of us even crosstrained.

I had never heard of people getting smoked for getting prepared before their instructors woke them up until I met a Marine.

Fortunately we never got anything bad for that -- because, you know, we had shite to learn that day.

I only served with Airborne units ... 82nd, 509th (now 173rd), was attached to 1/75th ... we consider ourselves a higher grade of troop than Marines, and most certainly than most Navy and AF.

You need to take the ASVAB and have your aptitude declared. Then decide if you are high-speed enough to become an elite troop ... or just another leg.

We are pretty much in the same boat. I'm almost finished with my degree in CS and I'm looking to go into OCS for the navy and will probably finish up my masters on their dollar. I think you should go ahead and get your degree a year and a half will not hurt you and when you get back to civilian world you'll hhaveat least your bach under your belt

I spent 21 years in the Army. Worked with mostly Army, but also had a joint assignment with Navy and also worked with Air Force and Marines.

I was most impressed with the Marines I knew. Lots of good people in all services, but to me the USMC stands out.

No military experience here, but the longer you wait to finish the degree, the bigger the pain in the arse it is to get credits transferred and counted.

No, a degree does not insure an officer slot, there is a ton of other criteria that must also be met.
