when you go back to NOLA, try a burger at Port-O-Call or the debris fries at R&O's in Metarie. Two of my favorite joints.

Also, I saw where you posted about being in the FQ for Mardi Gras, you should really try it along St. Charles, it is more fun than you should be allowed to have as an adult.

thanks- good to know, i'll bookmark your post.

i'm going in mid-late april- any other ideas would be welcome!

If you can, go during French Quarter Fest, it's free and a really good time.

I've never been, was told that by someone that went to Tulane University.

No, but it's unsafe in lots of areas. Too commercialized to be third world.

Here's an analogy: Nola is Buenos Aires, Baton Rouge is Mogadishu.

I will second Port O Call. So much better than Yo Mamas. Also, I highly recommend trying BBQ Shrimp while here. I really like Deanies Seafood, for theirs, but I'm others have other suggestions, for places I haven't been. I have heard Mr. B's has good BBQ Shrimp.
And another place I really like. Dat Dog, there is a location on Frenchman. I always get the alligator sausage, covered with crawfish etouffee, and bacon. But they have so many options.

it wasn't the last trip but the one before- i wish i could remember the name of the place but i can't now. seems like it was just some guys name like chip's or chuck's or something and i had rabbit and something jambalaya- was delish.

Not sure about that dish, but Cochon in the Warehouse District, has Rabbit and Dumplings. Very good place, make a reservation. But not too pricy.
Its a tourist trap restaurant, but Oceana/Ole Nawlins Cookery has a very good blackened alligator bites, for an app.

Awesome- thank you!

I keep sending these emails out to folks that I'm going with and they're going to be like umm we need to do something other than eat. But when in NOLA you have to gorge.

If you haven't already, check out Frenchmen St. Cool bars and live music scene.
And as was already suggested, check out some uptown bars along magazine st. and st. charles.

Shaya in Uptown is worth it if you can get a table. Head chef and owner comes from Dominica. Israeli food. Pita bread will change your life.

Assuming you flew in, grab a sandwich at Tartine on your way out of town. A little off the beaten path, but really good.

Biscuits on Banks or Wake n Bacon in Midcity for a good breakfast. Couple blocks from the Canal Streetcar.

Want good drinks and good barfood later on in the night, Delechase is a great bet. Right on St. Charles at Delechase, so you can take the streetcar to past Louisiana and you're right there.

ETA: I'm in New Orleans all the time, give me an idea where you're staying and I can hook you up with good stuff close to you.

If you walk downriver on Decatur (which means you're really walking northeast), it runs into Frenchmen. Frenchmen runs perpendicular to the river. Bunch of cool bars, lots of live music.

So north side of the quarter.

Pizza Delicious and The Joint over in the Bywater both worth your time. The joint slings some high quality BBQ in South Louisiana, which is one cuisine we don't do a ton of here. Probably just as close as those Uptown places.

Get some purple drank at Lafittes Blacksmith Shop. It's like a couple of blocks south of you. Its in a legit old blacksmith shop from the 19th century.

Wade is on point about Frenchman Street too btw.
