I've never been, was told that by someone that went to Tulane University.

She said her and her roommate had to boil their water at least once a week

I love NOLA- it's dirty and seedy and it's fun and loud and lively and it's quaint too. True story, I went to Mardi Gras two years ago coming up. The weather was a chilly and rainy so from what we were told it wasn't the wildest of them all. However, it was still crazy. Fat Tuesday dressed in costume had just got to Bourbon and I stepped in a little pothole in the street and soaked my left foot. Don't think that the thought 'I may have to get my foot amputated' didn't cross my mind but turns out foot was fine no problems at all.

Why NOLA is awesome - partied like crazy that night, next day went to the cathedral for Ash Wednesday mass. So, some may say hypocritical but I like to think it was kinda perfection. I sort of felt like I marked off one of living life's targets.

I'm going back in April for more fun too. :)

.People begging for money every where you go. - check.
.Poor quality proteins they have to drench in spices to trick idiot tourists. - check.
.Foreign language, or some type of inaudible quickly muttered peasant-English. - check.
. cheap colored jewelry being peddled by street vendors. check.
. Strong warnings to tourists not to leave the heavily policed safe zones. - check.

yes because he said the water had to be boiled. You get your foot wet on Bourbon and see if you don't say a little prayer.

You're less likely to get murdered in some 3rd world countries than some parts of the n.o. 3rd world countries aren't filled with corndogs... What I'm saying is 3rd world countries > n.o.
