Is it better to know a bit of the synopsis for a show/movie, or go in cold?

With all the ads and trailers and promos out there, it's hard to go into any show/movie totally cold, but it still happens sometimes.
Do you prefer going in with no knowledge of what you are about to watch, or have some synopsis/plot knowledge beforehand?
I greatly prefer going in straight cold, most of the time. Usually that only happens when I hear about a show via word of mouth. We started The Killing, True Detective, and Life of Pi basically at a cold open. Used to happen a lot more when I was younger when my dad would introduce me to movies, or I picked them off of DC++.

Synopsis and I will watch the trailer if I haven't seen one yet.

Depends on the type of show. If it's based on books/movies I'll tend to watch/read a little. If it's another cop show or hospital drama like the 1000's of others I'll just watch the damn thing.

I prefer to go in blind, but there are some where if you really want to enjoy the details, you need to read the books. Maze Runner was one like that, but I like going in blind, not even trailers.

Your time is limited and therefore how you spend it realistically must be exclusive. The obvious answer is yes, you should filter what you invest in by determining if it is something of interest.

Going in cold caused me to watch The Bridges of Madison County ....
never again....and dammit, Clint

I usually watch only one trailer and/or gain a relatively rudimentary rudimentary idea of the plot. If i like it, then go watch whatever and make up my own mind about it.
I've found I enjoy movies more when I'm not jaded one way or the other towards it.

I prefer to have some idea as to the movie plot before going. And by idea, I mean trailers and such. No book reading at all. Really spoiled the movie for me. Lone Survivor (the movie) was a let down for me because I read the book first. (Most excellent read !)
Last movie that I went in dry was "Rock of Ages". Had no idea it was a musical....and no idea Tom Cruise was the lead actor in the movie. Seeing him sing 80's music just about did me in. It was Sooo wrong on so many levels.

Im a pretty big movie buff pretty much seen it all when it comes to movies so I like to go in straight cold because alot of the time these days i can picture how the whole movies going to turn out just with the content shown within the trailer and it comes around to bother me when i end up watching the movie. Straight cold.
