I think it's all a matter of perspective.

Folks want to try to paint things black or white (pardon the pun), but truly, America is varying shades of gray when it comes to race.

Racism has NOT been eradicated in this country, by any stretch. It may never be (but I'll never say never on that front, especially as mixed couples/families become increasingly common). Some folks may not want to hear it, but minorities still do experience racism and racial bias in varying degrees in the USA. Just because things are better than they once were is not cause to dismiss such incidents.

By the same token, however, it is flat out astonishing how far we've come in race relations in so little time. From a country where wholesale chattel slavery was legal to one where minorities have full legal rights in a century and a half? That's a turnaround virtually unprecedented in world history, and America is to be commended for it. Especially when holding our race relations up to those faced by the rest of the world, we ARE the gold standard for progress on that front. There's no other country where I'd rather be a minority or raise a mixed family, if I'm blessed with such.

There will always be work to do. Like greenbastard said, there are plenty still living today who were on both sides of the civil rights movement. They didn't read about it in a history book--they lived it, for better or for worse. Those wounds won't heal in a generation or two, but the rest of us can keep the ball rolling in the right direction. That's what it boils down to--how are are going to improve the status quo? Because in spite of our successes, there will always be room for improvement.

where is the lion's share of the racism directed towards in Mexico?

It really depends on where you are. If you're dark (Moreno/Negro) the chances of advancing can be difficult, but similarly if you venture into the city as a lighter-skinned person, you WILL be taken advantage of in some way or some manner. I have so many stories of people trying to rip me off (even after I tell them that I live in Mexico) that I could literally start another thread.

For whites: More likely to be robbed, scammed and prices of everything go up.

But, most racism is shown toward: Natives and other Latin Americans.

A lot of people get stranded here in Mexico City from Honduras, Panama, Colombia etc. etc., and they get super discriminated against, but I think it's worse in the North.

Natives here are...belligerent, they still maintain slavery and without looking like a sneering imperialist: frick everything about them. As I said, they still have slavery (which is outlawed in Mexico) and constantly come on the metro and beg for money, but not in a servile humble way, but in a: This is our country and you owe it to us, type of way.

Most definitely, mostly because we allow it to, and in many cases further the divide when attempting to bridge the gap.

Perfect example. Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action policies based upon race make racial tensions worse. Why? Because we no longer have laws that allow for racist treatment, but we have policies that encourage it. Instead of focusing on the true problems that we still face, we continue to dwell on an old problem.

Yes, there are always going to be racist people, it comes with the territory of freedom. But as a society, removing race from the equation is the only way to truly rid ourselves of racism.

That isn't to say that there haven't been legitimate grievances, because there definitely has. But an eye for an eye or overcompensation is not going to help anything.

Diversity, Inclusion, or any other racist affirmative action policy needs to be eliminated. Period.

Judge individuals on the merits of their accomplishments, and not their perceived struggles due to skin color.

I agree with everything you said, but this seemingly innocent statement:

is a big reason why us rednecks scratch our heads and say, "WTF? Tbird thinks racism is only experienced by minorities?"

I do.

I believe it won't be long before we find a set of sisters that when they're in close proximity, they will be able to have visions of hateful thoughts other people are having. We should lock them up and connect them to a monitoring device so we can see who is having those hateful thoughts. Then send Tom Cruise out after those hateful thinkers to arrest them.

Didn't say that--was commenting from my perspective as one. My bad for muddling my meaning.

Racism is racism. Period. Minorities have experienced more (and more severe forms) of it over the course of our nation's history, but that's not an unusual plight for racial minorities in any society, unfortunately.

Japan makes Koreans change their names into Japanese ones to come a citizen....then, in the past, forced them to live in slums.
