No. You can't cure racism, and this country still has freedom of speech, so people should be free to be racist as much as they want to be.

Enjoy a rare but deserved upvote from me good sir.

We don't have shite on Europe, a lot (but not all of) Latin America, and Asia on racism

Mexicans constantly refer to each other by race. "Guero, Moreno, Negro", they look down their noses on the more darker Latin Americans (no joke) and...man, it's hard to explain. It's just so racist here.

There is more black on white racism in this country than white on black racism.

Wish people would live in Mexico for one week to see what racism looks like. America, even in the deep south, is one of the least racist places I've set foot in.

I lived in Mexico for four years and racism is alive in Mexico. One place it is very well demonstrated in is Mexican shows and soap operas. Tune in to any Televisa based Telenovela currently airing on your local Univision affiliate and you'll see that the actors are disproportionately whiter than the average Mexican. The more European you look, the better you are deemed in Mexican society. The more indigenous you look, the least likely you'll get opportunities to better your life (from both society and the government). It's a fact that nobody denies in Mexico.

Having said that, the racism in Mexico has never been as bad as the racism that the U.S. has seen (and even sees today in the form of aftershocks). Mexico has never had widespreas separate restrooms or different restaurant sections for indigenous people. If you had the money, you could always use the same establishments that rich Anglo-Mexicans used. Blacks in America, on the other hand could be rich and well educated, but still be legally treated worse than a dog in places like Mississippi up until the 1960s. Mexico may still have social issues, but Indigenous Mexicans will never see the level of hate that African Americans have had to go through and still go through in this country. Not even close. On this side of the world, the U.S. may have the worst racist history of any country still operating today. Slavery may have also existed in places such as Cuba and Brazil, but boy did you Southerners fight til the death for the right to enslave blacks against their will!

American history is filled with a lot of hate and sadly African Americans are still paying for the enslavement of their people til this day.

I have found that most black people I have met are extremely racist. White people not so much. There are television stations that are for black people exclusively, there are college scholarships awarded to black people exclusively and hell, we have an entire month devoted to black society exclusively. There are many more examples as well. So yeah, this country is still very much racist.

I think America, is on the whole, a lot less racist than most parts of the world.

We actually discuss race. We also have a much more diverse population and still the majority of us consider ourselves American first.

It was funny living out of country. In Australia, as soon as people heard my Alabama accent, they just assumed I was in the racist club. It never took more than a day or two for those with really deplorable views to feel like it was okay to spew that stuff to me.

And I mean there was serious racism there. Arguing certain races literally had no soul and were not human.

You realize slavery ended over 150 years ago right? That's what? Three generations? frick, I got over my indentured servitude.

And you do realize that there are blacks alive today that lived through the horrors of being hozed by firefighters, beaten by police, and bitten by police dogs just for asking to be treated like regular human beings? Ask them if they're over it? Some of the things they went through are simply unforgivable.

You may think just because a few blacks are rich and one of them is president that the effects of oppression are over, but that's not the case. African Americans did not only have to start from scratch after slavery, but they also had to fight racism and legal social disadvantages. Remember separate but equal? One can can point to the day slaves were legally set free, but ask yourself...were they really free? Real systematic oppression in the form of racist laws were still around until the 1960s in some parts of the U.S., mostly the South. Yet, we expect them to get over it? 245 years of forced slavor, and another 100 years of legal discriminatory laws against their people, yet you expect them to simply forgive and forget? If we want to keep it real real, how far African Americans have come along is a miracle when you consider the shite they went through. African Americana have made astonishing progress when you consider the hand they were dealt.

You may be over your "indentured servitude", but don't expect everyone to simply get over it.

Slavery existed for a total of 245 years (predating the American Revolution). That means that the majority of African American history in this land involves them being slaves more than them being free. And then add another 100 years of them being denied their civil rights and African Americans, especially in the South, have only truly had ~55 years to get over it.

So please forgive them for not being so quick to forgive. You see, they really haven't had time to satisfy your need to "get over" it as they've been too busy trying to pick up their lives from the hundreds of years of oppression.
