Being the son of a Vietnam vet I can tell you I would have rather been fighting Charlie than incurring that wrath

I would still be missing, my body never found

I did some stupid shite as a kid/teenager, but telling my dad to frick off was NOT one of them. Like other poster's dads, mine was also a green beret during Vietnam. After that, he became a cop.

Hell, to this day if he says my whole name in a certain tone, it's like ice starts running through my veins and I feel 5 again. Man is scary.

Don't know. Though I sorta wish I was. My back has been fricked up ever since. Seeing as he is a former marine I guess I should be glad my back getting fricked up is all that had happened.

That + my right knee being equivalent to an 70 year old's knee due to a childhood injury (and my left being bad due to years of putting all my body weight on it when I walk though it is not as bad as my right) it makes it hard as Hell to do much of anything that requires physical activity and is part of what makes finding a job near impossible for me. My life is fricked.

This sums up my experience pretty much. Even as a kid myself I was shocked at how some kids were with their parents.

I've never even come close to saying like that to my old man but I know that even with him being 56 and me 23, he could still kick my arse.

He would have slapped me across the mouth before the word "off" came out.

Then a good whooping with the belt

My little brother did at around 12 (I was 14); My dad pulled off his leather belt and started at his ankles. He worked his way up to the neck, and started back down again.

My dad regrets doing that now (we joke about it) but we (my 2 brothers, father and I) all agree he needed it.

It's that old man strength combined with wisdom.

My grandfather is 89 years old and he probably could have whipped my arse up until about five years ago. Dude is built like a bull and still hits a golf ball farther than me

I remember talking back to my dad when I was like 12. I won't repeat what he said, but I have never forgotten it. And that's the way it should be. If you are friends with your kid you'll turn in to Paul Manziel.

I called my Mom a bitch once and she backhanded me so hard I had to check the mirror to make sure I had teeth left. I've never called my Mom out of her name since.

Dad didn't get involved unless shite got really bad and it required "calling Dad". Luckily outside of a minor spanking when I was little did I ever experience that. My brother on the other hand did. And Dad had an old razor strap.
