I won't call a low income man who's too poor to pay child support a bad criminal. That's what Walter Scott's arrests were for. Or a pot smoker either.

A person I knew when I lived in Wilmington was this way.

After I posted that, I got to thinking about that and realized exactly what I just read in y'alls replies. It definitely is not always that a "criminal" is "bad".

The guy I knew was an older fella who was a veteran but as is typical, he was anything but taken care of or assisted by the government. He'd go to food pantries and things like that but there was apparently a limit on how many times/how often they allowed ppl to come in for help. I would help him as much as possible, as would others, but there were times he resorted to stealing food out of pure necessity in order to eat and he'd be arrested and charged with petty theft...and sometimes that was actually his goal. He knew in jail he'd have a warm/cool place to sleep, food to eat, a place to bathe, etc. He would also attempt dumpster diving for food before stealing but he was even arrested for doing that a few times.

I often wonder what happened to him after I moved back to SC. He called me his Angel bc I would always take him to a hotel and pay for his room when it was far too cold of a night for him to sleep on the streets or in an abandoned house when the shelters were full and had no more room. I really hope someone else came along and instead of judging and assuming things about him like so many ppl do regarding homeless ppl, they instead took the time to help him.

Anyway, didn't mean to go on and on about that...just basically wanted to say y'all are right and my original statement was absolutely not the case

Yes the cop should be tried and have to face jail time just like any other regular citizen. Cops should never be above the law like some believe in here. I mean how many times have we heard examples of cops going off terrible intelligence only to harm/kill innocent citizens as a result.

As people said, everyone makes mistakes so that is why we have a system in place to help make sure to get things right. So you arrest the 'bad criminal', gather evidence, present your case to a judge/jury and let the courts decide. Every American has this right.

However if someone was caught in the act of doing some evil and vile grotesque act to some animal/child/etc, then I could see how some people wouldn't mind if the cop put them down right there. I would rather have these people serve a life sentence rotting away in jail, doing hard slave labor, as that would be more fitting punishment than the easy way out, a bullet. But then again I have a different view of our prison systems and think that the real criminals should be held there instead of being over filled with many non violent drug offenders mixed in w/ rapist, murders, etc. I also think the prison should do a much better job of rehabilitating people to rejoin society in a productive manner once released, but for those special SOBs who get these life sentences, they should be in much harsher and severe conditions.

If the bad guy is bad enough, I don't even care if the cop flat out assassinates him.
