Not trolling. I'm not even disagreeing with the story's message that the plight of these kids is awful. Most of them have no futures, and will barely be able to read when they hit high school. That's a goddamn tragedy and a full on failure of their parents to take care of them or instill any discipline. Having an unwed single mother is the worst thing that can happen to a kid, and is the single most damaging factor in a child's socioeconomic upward mobility.

Thankful my siblings and I were homeschooled in a caring household.
My heart breaks for those kids in the article. Kudos to the teacher.

The problem is that most single parents aren't well off and have little to no evolvement in their child's education. They don't see the benefits because they didn't care about their own education.
