They didn't even see her I don't think. She was walking by with a group of other people as I was trying to take a pic of the podium. Some guy yelled at me "coming through" when I recognized her and said sorry, Mrs Pelosi. She said no problem and said they were running late to wherever they were headed and asked if I got the pic I wanted. My wife didn't even know who she was. She didn't look as bad as she does in some pics.

I saw a pic of her and Al Sharpton together, but he wasn't with her group when I saw her.

Interesting you get that close. How strict was security walking into the event? I've never been to something like that and always assumed that people like her would enter from an area away from the crowd for safety reasons, and all of the crowd would be searched and frisked before being allowed into eyesight of any politician.

This was still 3 or 4 hours before Obama arrived, so security was a little lax. There really wasn't an entry point where they checked anyone, but there was a large secret service presence all day, as well as state troopers. I couldn't get real close to the podium, probably about 30-40 yards. You had to have wristbands or be part of the media to get closer. I was surprised to see her that early, but a lot of the elected folks were mingling with the crowd Around that time. Right around 11 or 12, it got super crowded and the only other one I saw after that that I recognized was Elizabeth Warren. She wasn't really mingling though. Just smiling and waving as she was escorted to their seating section, or wherever they were going. I couldn't see where they were sitting from my vantage point.

It was kind of awkward how they had the stage set up, but it was for TV. They wanted the bridge in the background. To the left of the podium was another street and is where I ended up watching most of it, probably about 150 yards from the stage.

should have made it real -- sure you could have found someone to bust your head just like John Lewis had his busted. But you would probably just rather talk the talk like Jessie did. John Lewis walked the walk

I'm shocked at this considering what happened with Reagan's assassination attempt.

A crazy loon could easily conceal a higher caliber pistol within a winter jacket and with decent training make a lethal shot on a politician within 30 yards. Obviously that person would be arrested/shot but the damage could be done and there are people insane enough to do that. Especially in Alabama

Elizabeth Warren but it was a cluster around her.

Now she knows how Gen. Custer felt when her people did that to him.

I was about to correct you, but you're right. Bentley's a RINO.

No, Bentley is very much a Republican.

I was kind of suprised at the apparent lack of security walking into the area, but there were secret service literally everywhere.

More surprising were all the aea businesses that were still open like it was a normal day.

I did notice Bentley was the only is Nd stage that didn't stand and applaud when Obama said congress needed to reinstate portions of the VRA.

It's still a shithole. But I wouldn't trade it for Arkansas.

Wow... Barack Obama is the biggest cult of personality in the history of our country... I wasn't alive for JFK's presidency but there's no way it compares to this... I guess our most merciful and fearless leader will be filling out his NCAA tournament bracket on live television this time next week.

I've never seen the allure to congregate with thousands of other people and be herded like cattle to listen to any single person, especially politicians. To each their own though. Glad your kids enjoyed the experience.

Teddy Roosevelt and Nixon would like a word. Do you even know what that phrase means?

Not even close. FDR by a landslide. Dude had the whole country eating out of his hand for damn near 16 years.
