I have plenty of liquor and candles. What else will I need? Water maybe?

Stopped reading there, seems like you have all you really need

Seriously tho, are you close enough to board up the windows and stuff? If so to you have a safe place farther inland?

Pussy. There isn't much else to do in the dark once all the power is gone.

Isn't beer mostly water?

Joking aside

candles

No, or if you absolutely must be very VERY careful in selecting the types you have and where you place them.

I'm in central Alabama and in the 'power is out everywhere' phases of both Dennis and Ivan, I've responded to house fires where the residents were using candles for light.

I think I'm inland enough. I don't expect much except maybe the power going out.

1) Full tank of gas

2) compass to point you north and west

Problem solved

You may be missing a key metric

What about rising water?

Seems one of my recent trips to Savannah from ATL was having issues with rising water and it sure looked ugly driving the interstate and watching the waters nearing edge to spill over. Was just rain and not even hurricane level rain.

17 feet above sea level. Is that what I needed?

Edit: frick, I'm gonna die

Batteries and a radio, 3 days worth of food you can eat that doesn't require a stove or oven. That's if all you expect is to lose power for a while.

It isn't going to hit us and if it does it'll barely be a cat 2 at the time.

You wont have hot water or AC.

Get propane to heat water, and lots of ice.

As a veteran hurricane survivor on on the gulf coast..... Water, food that doesn't need to be cooked, decent flashlights and batteries, alcohol helps you get to sleep in the heat, bug spray, and a couple ice chests full of ice that you don't open unless you have too. And fill your tubs with water so you can flush the toilet. We didn't have running water for a week after Katrina. Generators (I prefer Honda) are nice but not necessary. And find a radio.

News always makes it sound worse than it is.

When is it supposed ti hit landfall and with what strength?

When Andrew hit it wiped out all the really expensive beach properties. We were just across the street in a little bungalow and just lost some roof shingles. All the scorpions under the house invaded with the rising water tho so that was pretty crazy.

Beer. Yeti. 5 20lb bags of ice.

Condoms if you have a girlfriend or wife. Let me repeat this. Condoms. Katrina babies are a real thing.

Generator and a few tanks of fuel are beneficial.

Big water reservoir you can put in your bathtub and fill up before the storm hits.

Battery operated radio.

Flashlights and batteries.

Lots of bottled water.

Solar panel battery charger (for kindles, ipads, phones, etc).

A solid plan with your loved ones of where to go and what to take if cell service goes down and you have to bail.

I'm not really paying attention to this storm, so not trying to compare it to Katrina, but they were right about Katrina.
