Lately I've been going to bed at 7am and waking up at 2-3pm. Is this type of degenerate behavior healthy?

No. No matter what people on night shift might say, the human body is wired to sleep at night. You may feel fine, but your body isn't working at its peak when you don't sleep when it's night time.

But, you might be young and not notice it as much.

Look at it this way. You get your 8 hours of sleep, but you are depriving your body of the nutrition it needs to energize your body for the day. Eating at least 3 good meals a day and snacks here and there is one way to fix your schedule. Exercising is another way to get your body to stay awake. As you exercise your body is pumping out hormones like testosterone and all while producing positive feeling endorphins. Along with eating this can greatly affect your sleep schedule in a positive way.

Bottom line is you need to force your body to stay awake today until about 9pm then go the frick to sleep.

Take one melatonin around 8:30/9 PM 2-3 nights in a row (Depending on when you want to go to sleep)and wake up early. Thats all it took to fix my schedule when I started the real world. After that, you should be good. Melatonin is supposedly non addictive (or whatever the appropriate word here is) but I wouldn't get used to needing it to fall asleep.

ETA: lol. Just noticed the wake up at 2/3pm, make yourself awake up before noon at the least before trying to go to bed early.

It's not healthy, but it's the product of 21st century lifestyles. The only real way to do it is a reset by staying up until around 9-ish the next night. It feels like hell in the early afternoon, but you'll eventually power through it if you can get out of the house.

If you have a general sleep cycle its easy to change it. Just wake up earlier and go to sleep earlier. Put away the phone/tv/laptop/ect and close your damn eyes.

lol. No, it's the product of young people with no job.

I only know one person who does similar to the OP. He'll say up playing video games and drinking until 6 or 7am, then sleep til about 5pm and repeat. He's 28 and lives with his mom and has no discernible prospects moving forward.

The only "lifestyle" it's a product is that of the lazy and unmotivated. Unless OP is a nightclub owner or bartender or something, which I don't think he is, the simple solution is to just make yourself get on a normal schedule. Not rocket science.

The behavior of sitting up and playing video games all night wasn't an option in the not too distant past, so we're not necessarily disagreeing on that note. Not to mention there are people who have jobs with awkward schedules that make them blur the lines between the two lifestyles. My girlfriend has school at 8:30 in the morning, and she also works a service job that makes her work until 4 or 5 AM on the days she isn't going to school. She does some form of reset every single week, and I know several people who balance such lives.

Just because you only know one person in that particular situation doesn't mean that's the norm. Your microcosm doesn't represent the entire country, believe it or not.

I never claimed it represented everyone. I recall posts by the OP to where it's a reasonable guess that he is not working a service industry job until 5am.

I also know that OP is fairly young, early to mid 20s or thereabouts, and I would imagine the majority of early 20something males that stay up til 7am and wake up in the afternoon are doing it because they frick around all night adn don't have responsibilities instead of it being due to them having jobs that work them til that late.

Worked night shift for a little over two years. Got back to working daylight hours just this month. Still have trouble getting to sleep/staying asleep through the night sometimes. Getting better, but still a struggle.

Get off night shift when you can

I'm working night shift right now, personally. I tolerate it because it's a decent job, but I really can't stand sleeping during the day.

Eh, a sleep schedule like this can be caused by depression or something else causing a chemical imbalance in his body. Considering the OP's history with the former and his extensive drug use, he could have serious hormonal/chemical imbalances.

I know my situation is drastically different than the OP's, but every time someone said this to me, I wanted to punch them in the face.
