I don't have any feelings towards something that is a figment of the religious right's imagination.

I don't have a problem with it because Christmas is holiday based flawed principles. Jesus was not born on Dec. 25. Christmas is based on pagan principles and has little to nothing to do with Christian beliefs of the birth of christ. Somehow it evolved into that though.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season!

TBH, they haven't done a very good job of it. Even the Puritans failed and they were accused of it in the late 1600s.
In Modern Day America the War has much darker roots:
And those are just some highlights. The various groups accused go on for centuries.
But back to modern times... Neither Ford nor the John Birch Society of 1959 are things anyone should want to be associated with even now. This "War" has been going on for centuries and the motives have varied from racist/anti-semitic, anti-specific Christian groups, to political. It's shameful that it's been revised by media fearmongers stirring up otherwise good people - folks who honestly believe Christmas is somehow under attack.

In Modern Day America the War has much darker roots:
quote:
Henry Ford was an avid proponent of the idea that someone—or more precisely, some group—was waging a war on Christmas. “Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone's Birth,” according to The International Jew: The World's Foremost Problem, a widely distributed set of anti-Semitic articles published in the automobile magnate’s newsweekly during the 1920s. “People sometimes ask why 3,000,000 Jews can control the affairs of 100,000,000 Americans. In the same way that ten Jewish students can abolish the mention of Christmas and Easter out of schools containing 3,000 Christian pupils.”
In 1959, it was the far-right John Birch Society that published a pamphlet alerting the nation to an "assault on Christmas" carried out by "UN fanatics...What they now want to put over on the American people is simply this: Department stores throughout the country are to utilize UN symbols and emblems as Christmas decorations.”
And those are just some highlights. The various groups accused go on for centuries.

The true meaning of Christmas was lost long ago when corporations made it about a mythical guy from the North Pole who gives out presents, for no other reason than to sell a bunch of merchandise
Before I was born and I am old, to point the finger at Liberals is just what the Merchandisers want, deflect the blame onto others our national pastime
Merry Christmas

Liberals' war on Christmas?
This is a stupid generalization, and I'm not a liberal.
Most black people are liberal democrats and are one of the most "Christian" demographics in America.

Yeah this.
Although I will say that the people that use "X-Mas" are fricking annoying.
Use Happy Holidays if you don't like Christmas. Just seems like they are going out of their way to spit in people's faces that do.

There's a group of atheists in memphis that have a winter solstice party with decorations and shite. That just seems ironic.

Also, its pretty smart for a business to say Happy Holidays. Christmas isn't the only religious holiday during this time. They are trying to cater to every possible customer and Happy Holidays encompasses everyone.

I'm late on this thread but I wanted to share my FIL's take (he is a very conservative Christian), who shared this with me last year when the topic was being discussed:
I think his exact words were "hallelujah" to the notion that stores are leaving Christ out of Christmas. Stores are and have always been in it to make money. Taking Christ out of that means that Christians can focus on Christ in the right contexts: family, friends, helping the needy, and worship. Christ doesn't belong in the stores. He belongs in our hearts.

There's Korean baptists in memphis too with a pagoda outside the church.

Atheist Churches actually exist. If that's not an oxyretard I don't know what is

The root words of "holiday" are "holy" and "day" so I don't see what the big deal is.
But many Christians are becoming good at playing the victim.
