What makes the Dresden photo so sad is that the city held no military significance whatsoever... If anything, it was a safe haven for refugees of multiple nations trying to escape the violence taking place in Germany at the time... The USAAF and RAF crisped all those innocents just to show the advancing Red Army (who was camped out across the river) that collateral damage was of no concern.

The dead bodies at Bergen-Belsen is pretty moving

Dying from starvation and typhus simultaneously over the course of weeks is just unimaginable... I'd use what little strength I had left to kill myself.

exactly. It was well known that there were no defenses and nothing of military value in this city. It was said to be the most beautiful city in all of Europe before it was fire bombed. The head was so intense that, when troops opened up the bomb shelters after the war, there was a thick layer of "fleshy substance" on the ground. The phosphorus bombs that fell were so hot that it literally melted everyone in the shelters into a puddle that dried up together.

frick whomever decided to fire-bomb Dresden. frick 'em hard....right in the arse.

I wonder why people get so worked up about the firebombing of Dresden, yet don't give a damn about the firebombing of Tokyo? Using conservative estimates, the raids on Tokyo of March 9, 1945 claimed over 3 times as many lives as did the Dresden raid.
