I've never seen a light or tunnels or anything or had my life flash before my eyes like a lot of people who flatline claim

Whenever i was in college and got into a car accident, i got a 4 inch metal shard lodged in my wrist and half my knuckle torn off(not sure if it was the sideview mirror glass or not). Anyway i was bleeding buckets and when the ambulance got there they said i was 10 minutes from death at the amount of blood i was losing. It was so weird because i remember feeling hardly any pain, and almost feeling a warm calmness wash over my body as i bled. It was a strange feeling looking back on it..maybe that's what it's like to bleed out--you just fade into a warm, calm dirt nap

Anyone had a NDE? See angels? Hover over your body in the OR?

I once talked back to my mother when I was a youngen, the fact that I am alive today speaks to my cat-like reflexes.

I haven't, but a few weeks ago my husband comes home and tries to check his blood pressure because his arm had been tingling. It wouldn't read it so we went to a Walgreen's and he was told to head directly to the ER because of how high it was. We get to the ER and it reads 240/139. The Dr. Said he must have some strong veins, because blood pressure that high can easily kill you.

The admitting nurse said he won the prize for the person needing to be in the ER most that day.

Needless, to say he is on medication now, but luckily he has absolutely no damage from running that high.

Falling asleep at the wheel at about 55-60 mph and ended up on the other side of the road only to wake up in time to get over.

Was a passenger in a car that rolled over a few times after hitting a fire hydrant. Only other close call wasn't as dramatic. Swam out in the ocean a bit too far I guess, turned to swim back, swam for as long as I could and looked up and it seemed I was further away than when I started. That feeling sucked.

Got in a wreck at 70 mph going to work last Tuesday with my friend. The oncoming car's driver had a heart attack swerved into our lane. I luckily walked away fine, my friend dislocated his foot and unfortunately the other driver passed away.

Shitty situation all the way around.

None of these sound much like near death experiences.

Maybe not, but I have lived through more than a dozen closed head injuries and two brain surgeries.

I totaled my car when I was 16. I went down into (about) a 30-45 foot ravine. The car flipped about three times on the way down. It came to a rest on the roof. I didn't have my seatbelt on. There's no reason I walked out of that.

I mixed some chemicals yesterday that I knew would react but ended up reacting much more violently and quicker than I'd seen before and I basically had a small bomb go off in my face, luckily I turned away at the right time and only had my ears ringing for about 3 minutes.

In my partying days I had bunches of drunk crashes that could've should've been a lot worse. I've woken up driving 60mph in ditches headed for trees and was able to avoid rolling or hitting anything. I've got good reactions behind the wheel and have avoided an untold number of wrecks from people pulling out in front of me or running stop signs or slamming their brakes for something.

Luckily I've never had any medical issues or been hospitalized or even needed a scrip past some pain meds or antibiotics.

When I was 16 I had a recurring dream that I was being flipped over and over, with no control to stop it. This went on for months.

One day I got in my car to drive to a friends house. I leaned over for the seat belt, and it didn't budge. This was the mid-nineties, and I was driving a mid-eighties car, so I shrugged it off and took off.

My house was 6 miles of curvy two lane country roads from my destination.

I flipped and rolled at mile 5. The flipping over, and over was exactly like my dream. If I had fastened my seatbelt that day, I'd have died, my roof was crushed. As it was I ended up in the floorboard of my 1984 Pontiac, and walked away.

That's as near death as I get, and I swear 20 years later, there was something else happening there.

Not really near death, but it is something that I always look back on.

When I was 3 or so, my mother drove me to the grocery store and parked out front. If she was going to be fast, she would keep the car running and lock the doors and tell me to only unlock the doors for her. (I grew up in the 70's... It was normal then.)

As soon as she walked inside, this guy came from the side of the building and started trying to unlock the door. Then he leaned over and smiled real eerily and say "hey, can you unlock the door please."

I was absolutely frozen in fear. He then ran off. I often wonder WTF that guy had planned. At minimum, he was going to steal our car. But, he knew I was in there bc he watched me the whole time. Pretty sure that life would have sucked if I had opened that door.

When I was an undergrad at UK, I caught the flu once. It was February, cold as shite and not even mid-term. So life royally sucked. I was sick as a dog.

On top of that I developed pneumonia. I decided to hole up in my room until it blew over. Almost my last bad decision.

During one of the darkest nights of my sickness, I felt that I was dying. I was dreaming but awake at the same time. I saw a huge spiral staircase that led to what I can only describe as my version of heaven.

On the staircase, and several people ahead of me, I saw my recently deceased Mom. She was absolutely beautiful and dressed all in white. There were other familiar faces, too, but it was my Mom on whose face I was fixed.

I called out to her and tried pushing past the people between us. When I got close enough to get her attention, she gave me a radiant, loving smile of recognition but then raised her hands in a motion indicating I should stop.

I couldn't hear the words she spoke to me but I could understand enough from lip-reading to know she was saying, "Turn back. It's not your time. I'll be here waiting. Go and live a full life. I love you."

I recovered from my closest-to-death experience that semester with no permanent damage to my body. However, I get a flu shot every year and take care of my health. It's what my Mom would have wanted for me.

Also, I don't have the slightest fear of death. I think Mom took care of that for me, too.
