Gulf Shores - Orange Beach Questions

Since the communist government of Panama City Beach banned alcohol on the beaches and destroyed spring break I would like to know the laws concerning alcohol for Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Mainly are you allowed to have alcohol on the beaches. Also any other laws that a 21 year old student should be aware of would help out as well

Open containers in public are against the law in Alabama.
Having said that, based on personal observation (and since I have family that owns a condo in OB we go fairly regularly) local law enforcement isn't draconian.
It's the beach. They understand that people who go there like to drink. Follow a few simple rules and you'll be safe.
1) OB/GS promotes themselves as a family destination. Act like you're at Club LaVella and you're going to get mashed.
2) Use cans and put it in a huggie. For obvious reasons, they're more concerned about glass on the beach.
3) Don't share with the underage. They also take MiP (minor in possession) more seriously.
Note: I'd be more careful in the state park. The laws are the same, but I don't know if their LEOs share the same attitude as their municipal brethren.

you get quite a bit of leeway when not on the public beaches.

So would I be okay if I just used cups or will they be trying to check my cooler or anything?

Unless you've got a bunch of people that look underage and/or act up you'll be just fine.

You will be good. Just make sure to put all of your empty cans and bottle back in your cooler. And I wouldn't get too rowdy on the beach.

Alright thanks.
Also I haven't been to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach since I was like 5 so what are some good kind of college-aged things to do like clubs or bars? I don't feel like spending all my time on the beach

I've never had a problem at OB and I drink on the beach every time I go. Just don't be obnoxious or littering and you won't have a problem. If take bottles, pour it into a cup and put the bottle/cap back in the cooler.
You don't need to hide cans, just don't leave them all over the place.

Ummm....Live bait and Flora bama, after that it tapers off quite a bit for college aged things to do

Are you going with a group?
if so, rent a pontoon boat and hang out on Robinsons island or party up at pirates cove

They have put out several warnings that they don't want to become Panama City Beach, so I would imagine they are going to step up patrols over spring break and enforce alcohol laws. Generally it's not a problem as long as you're not being an idiot. Don't bring glass bottles of any kind, don't play your music loud, bring garbage bags for your empty cans, and just be respectful and I doubt you have any problems.

I had known about Flora Bama so we will check it out. Renting a pontoon might be too pricey since it's short notice to book or they might all be full. Appreciate all the input though

Yea I've read some articles about that. Main thing in them is to just have no glass bottles. Our group won't be acting immature so that isn't much of a concern.

about 4-500 a day, depending on the boat, can fit 10 plus. Just a suggestion, usually people will pitch in $50 or so to have some fun.
You can start at Flora bama yacht club, head to robinsons island for some partying and water/beach fun, eat lunch at tacky jacks, then head up to prates cove and get trashed.

Stay away from the public beaches if you dont want any trouble.
And please have a DD all week, they really step up enforcement

What about The Hangout?
I'm old now, but when I drive by at night it SOUNDS like a place I would have visited 25 years ago.

I havent been during spring break time, but its usually older folks or Kids. I would venture to guess, lots of High School kids during spring break

Got that covered. It's nice to have a friend who is always sober.

I'd imagine Pink Pony and The Keg would have a decent college aged crowd during Spring Break.
