Patterson Hood's and Isbell's songs are way too hit or miss for me. Isbell has written some great songs but all of his solo albums bored me to tears save for 2 or 3 songs on each one. Plus when I met him once, he was a huge douche.

Cooley was always the best songwriter in that group.

Southeastern is fantastic. I'm going to see him open for Willie in a week or so (Allison Krauss as well).

Checkout Sturgill Simpson as well. He's starting to get a LOT of hype.

Love DBT - huge range with each album having a different feel and generally being great. Haven't heard English Oceans yet.

Jason Isbell is one of the best songwriters of all time.

The Truckers are dead since Isbell left.

Patterson Hood is a sloppy mess.

Anyone that put Hays Carl down is a sucker for good marketing.

Joe Pug has been called our Bob Dylan, he's truly one of the best. Look him up.

Did you glance at the songs I posted in my few posts?

We have very similar tastes.

Gotta disagree here, they all have moments of absolute brilliance and I'm pretty convinced Brighter Than Creations Dark is their most thorough album to date (post Isbell). Hood just likes to hear his own voice a little too much imo.

Ryan Bingham, John Fullbright, Justin Townes Earl, and Sturgill Simpson are great.

Mick & Keith and JJ Cale are great. Not sure about Fogelberg and Jackson Browne. They're decent but not on the level of the others

Agree with you on Creations, which may be obvious. English Oceans ain't bad either, behind DD and TDS. I love pretty much all of Patterson's songs (outside of Gangstabilly, except Living Bubba ). Might not be someone I could kick it with in large doses, but Stroker Ace seems like the coolest mother fricker around

What's the problem with Hayes? He's a great guy.

Wife and I just drove back from StL after family vacation to her hometown. Decided to listen to Southeastern together for about the 10th time. We talked about how there really isn't a bad song on the album. Just so solid throughout.
