It wasn't revolutionary. Windows came out with a tablet like 6 years before that. They just didn't hit the market at the right time.

Tell me of some of these killer iPhone only apps that aren't available on Google Play.

Henry Ford didn't invent the car, either. He just popularized it for the masses.

That's what iPad did. I'll give credit where credit is due. I wouldn't have one now--not for the price, not with that OS. . I like the Nexus 7.

Majority of big-time apps are available on iOS well before Android.

Keep waiting...I'm not going to sit here and list a long group of apps for someone who already has their mind made up. Anyone who owns an Android, knows iOS receives the best apps first.

The only better aspect is the downloadable content markets. Apple crushes Google in that area. As for the operating system itself, I have to disagree with you. I don't think there is much difference between the two. I think it just comes down to one question: do you like a shite load of features and flexibility or do you like simplicity?

Lots of truth here.

Apple is being amazingly successful in the tablet/phone market because of their content and consistency across platform. An iPad, iPhone, and iPod all work the same and mostly all run the same apps - and there are a lot of excellent apps for them to run.

Each installation of Android is customized to some level by the device vendor, making your Samsung phone not quite like your Asus tablet and not all apps work on all devices. In some cases (looking at you Asus), the device configuration and app compatibility is different between say, a 7" tablet and a 10" tablet in the same family.

This vast compatibility gap is why you see the cool new stuff almost always on iOS first. It is easier to get an app out there and know it will work on the entire family of devices.

If Google could get their shiat together and at least ensure some level of compatibility across platforms they could make apple very, very uncomfortable.

Jobs is gone, and with him the innovation died. Stick a fork in them.

This is an idiotic observation. Apple is doing very well and they are still coming out with amazing devices.

What "new" have they come out with since Jobs?

Higher res screens? Mini versions? An updated OS that still works like it did 7 years ago?

Thinner/lighter/more pixels does not equal innovation--not in the sense the iPad and iPhone innovated--and pretty much created--the smartphone/tablet markets.

Interesting. I can't think of a single major iOS app I can't get--or get something equivalent--on Google Play.

Source: I had an iPhone and an iPad (still have an iPod touch in the car). Have you ever owned Android?

...but Jobs was still alive during most of that span? Why didn't it change back then?

There's some truth to the compatibility issue--but I'd say they're already uncomfortable. Android is dominating market share, and Apple's innovation these days is in lawsuits.

Jobs valued simplicity above all else. I do know he was seeing red over Android . . but iOS has slowly aped many Android features over time.

Also, he was pretty damn sick most of that time.
