All organized religion is a long con. I can be spiritual without being religious

Indeed. Doesn't mean I don't occasionally attend religious services, I don't have disdain for organized religion. I have a problem with cults tho.

I'm not honest, but you're interesting.

Organized religion is a cult, bro. I attend church service semi regularly too. There are good aspects to organized religion, but they're still a cult.

Interesting, are you required to stay on the occasion you do attend a religious service?

Religions respect the individual's autonomy. Cults enforce compliance.

You're using the word differently. There's a dictionary definition of cult (which all religions fit) and then there's the common vernacular of "cult" which is a bit more specific. If you want to subscribe to the dictionary definition of cult, you are free to do so. It's just that you're talking about something else.

Uh, I'm talking about the word as it is defined. Perhaps y'all should find another word to use if the definition of it doesn't carry the negative connotations you're going for when using it.

You're dumber than you initially appear.

LINK

1 :formal religious veneration :worship
2 :a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also :its body of adherents

So far, so good.
quote:

3 :a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also :its body of adherents

Also
quote:

a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous

Welp. I guess that does it. Thanks for playing.

REALLY????? Anchoring this thread? Really?

There are literally hundreds of threads expressing negative views on Christianity, but expressing negative opinions on Scientology is a no no?

Maybe it's the short title? It seemed like pretty civil discussion.

I seriously doubt that's the reason

What does "anchoring" mean? Seriously.

EDIT: OK. It means what I'd guessed it means. Strange. This was one of the most civil threads on the OTB.

I guess Tom Cruise > Magma.

How's entrepreneurship plans going?

I'm self-employed already. I'm just needing to start another venture for personal reasons. Hell, I'll be honest: a member of the wife's family is married to an illegal Scottish immigrant. He's a smart, amiable, hard working guy. The types of jobs he can get are-- well-- illegal alien type jobs. Right now he's washing dishes in a restaurant and working like 70 hours a week for LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE. He works 7 days a week. Cleans the restaurant after closing. Cleans a laundromat owned by the restaurant owner two nights a week after that.

Anywho~ I want to put him in a better position. I'm thinking electronics resale. Buying, fixing, reselling computers, phones, gadgets. Maybe even setting up a section of the store like Game Stop: start buying and selling used games. Getting him trained to replace iphone screens and such. This is what I'm leaning towards.

Thanks for asking.
