I've heard the same about Thomasville. Nothing but good things

My hometown. Very nice place. I wouldn't hesitate to raise my family there and often wish I could but the cards didn't work out that way and I live in my wife's hometown elsewhere in south GA.

The only criteria that may conflict with OPs wish list is public schools in T-vile. County schools are pretty good; city schools not so much, although they do have some kind of magnet program going on within the city school system that's getting some good reviews.

North Leon County (Tallly) schools are very very good - and it's just down the road.

Georgia/Florida/Alabama Relocation
Any cities you would recommend targeting?

I would target Tuscaloosa for relocation to Antarctica. Other than that, I'd probably leave everything else in those states about where it is now.

Lots of low-income single parent "families." Crime is high. No real access to large bodies of water w/i 60 miles. Public education sucks.

If all of that sounds enticing to you, then you'll love Atlanta's south side metro.

He doesn't wan to live in the south side of Atlanta, he just wants to be further south than Atlanta.

Carrollton, Ga is not south of Atlanta but is about 40 miles west, which allows for an easy drive into Atlanta, but is still fairly laid back for a thriving college town (University of West Georgia).

We visited Carollton once for a half day-just kinda rode around taking in the town and had lunch on the square there. Pretty cool little place.

Also been thinking about Peachtree City-seems to be a pretty sweet locale for the folks who live there.

Hadn't considered Gainesville, but that would be pretty close to some family and the job market has got to be good, along with hopefully the fishing.

With his geography range, humidity is clearly not a factor.

I can give a few suggestions for the Atlanta area

1. With the exception of Peachtree City, stay away from the south side of Atlanta.
2. As mentioned above Carrollton is a nice area. I went to college there so I might can help you out a little with it. It's a small college town with great schools, a large hospital network in the town and surrounding area, and a few great restaurants. You're also a half hour away from Lake Wedowee which is located on the state line. Only negative is there is a little more crime in the area than the size of the town would suggest.
3. If you're open to the north side of Atlanta you might find a lot more of what you're looking for in that area. Kennesaw, Cumming, and Buford seem to fit exactly what you're describing.

I spent a few years growing up in thomasville and go every couple of years to see family. It has everything you mentioned minus good public schools. Population is around 20k but it feels a little bigger. Several very good restaurants and now they have a pretty nice bar although it's very hit or miss on the crowds. Hunting and fishing is top notch if you're into that. Great golf course if you're willing to be a member. Being like 45 mins from Tallahassee is nice if you need a little something more to do, however there's no huge entertainment events(big name concerts or sports besides FSU football). Oh and they have a very good hospital for the area there if you're in healthcare.

We just moved to Kennesaw. The gf works in south of Atlanta near peach tree city. We actually looked all over the area by peach tree. Peach tree was extremely nice but a little bit of an older crowd than we were looking for.

I guess if you're into strip malls and chain restaurants.

it does have a shite ton of chains, but it is nice living at the base of Kennesaw mnt. Its close to the city but still has the wooded look so i like that. Eventually we will probably move further north.

Preferences:

1-South of Atlanta/North of Tampa
2-Family oriented midsize town
3-Low crime
4-Access to water (fishing and swimming)
5-Good public education
6-Healthy job market (healthcare field)

I second this notion. It's close to multiple forms of water, including the beach, but doesn't have all the congestion or extremely high-priced homes like living in a true beachside town/city. The permanent food trucks are reason enough for me to be there. Couldn't tell you first hand what the job market is like, but it fits every other criteria you mentioned.

I was also thinking Warner Robins, GA as well. It is located in Middle GA and 3-5 hours to the beaches (jekyll or in Florida), about 3-5 hours as well to the mountains. Plenty of lakes and rivers in the surrounding area, plus WR isn't a shite hole like Macon is, but big enough and close enough to ATL to get most of the stuff you need. There are a ton of medical offices around here as well. Plus if you get a job in WR you can live out in the country and still only drive 30 mins to work.

Cons: Traffic can be horrible at times, especially if you are going to the base (morning) or leaving the base (afternoon).

There is always road work going on somewhere in Houston Co. Police can be a dick (in Perry and Byron), but haven't had that much problem in WR as it seems too big to worry about bullshite stuff (for the most part).

The town is pro military, but other than seeing a bunch of pro military stuff, its ok.

I'll put a recommendation in for Thomasville, Ga, as well. Lot of money in that town for it's size, though, which makes the cost of living (particularly housing) higher than you'd think for a rural town of that size.
