luckily my freshman year one of my best friends/neighbor was a sophomore. So when he started driving I just started riding with him everyday.

This. I went to public schools because they were excellent schools. My SO went to a private school because most of the public schools where he's from are terrible. He hated private school. I had a much better school life as a child.

I went to a 65-70% predominantly black public high school and it was awesome. Wouldn't change that experience for the world.
I only rode the bus in middle school though. No idea what time I had to pick it up. That was over 20 years ago.
