Cities I've been to:
Amsterdam
Copenhagen
Lyngby
Vienna
Prague
Barcelona
Paris
I'd love to live (during the summer only) in Lyngby/Copenhagen. I absolutely loved the Danish people and the laid back lifestyle.
My favorite cities to visit were Amsterdam, Prague, and Barcelona. Amsterdam for it's beauty (huge fan of the canals and flowers everywhere), Prague for the cheap (and delicious) food and beer, and Barcelona for the beaches, paella, sangria, and soccer.
Vienna and Paris were fun, and I had an amazing time in both, but just couldn't imagine spending more than a week in either without getting tired of them

The Cote d'Azur is just boring to me. Pretty, but boring. I prefer Normandy over the south of France.
there's just something about rocks on a beach that doesn't sit well with me. I do like Aix and Avignon in the South. Haven't spent enough time in Marseille to form an opinion. But I stand by Lyon as the best French city; if you haven't been, go!

I've never had a Parisian be rude to me, but I speak French.
this. Every American who has had a bad Parisian experience that I know of never tried to at least acknowledge the person in French and politely ask if they speak English. I met several rude American tourists while living in France who would just come up and ask me, in English, where so and so was. It was embarrassing, and one time so much so that I told them I didn't speak English.

St Andrews is my probably my favorite place, but I really, really like Danes and Swedes, so I am going with Stockholm and Copenhagen. The Almafi Coast is pretty sweet.

Rome is just too much everything.
Always had the most fun in London.

Asking what is your favorite European city is like asking what was the most beautiful woman you have ever seen...
Ok, comparing apples to apples by size:
Large cities - Rome, Berlin.
Medium cities - Strasbourg, Toulouse, Prague, Amsterdam.
Smaller cities - Sète, Sorrento, Bath, Linden, Carcassone, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, oh hell... just go and dump the return ticket while you're still young. Except the poster that thought Paris smelled bad - he can stay home.

Dude, I'm a vol fan who lives in Prague, too.
Weird.
Where do you live? I live down the hill from IP Pavlova.

Spent several days in Prague this summer on an Eastern Europe trip. I'd move there in a heartbeat. Loved it.
Also visited Krakow, Budapest and Bratislava with a half-day layover in Vienna while I was over there. Budapest was probably my second-favorite city. Wish I'd spent more time there.

I like the small towns in southern France in/near the Pyrenees the best. The people and atmosphere were very nice and laid back. I'm not a fan of large cities, so take my post for what it's worth.
My bad experience with the French involved trying to speak some semblance of intelligible French. I was asked 2 or 3 times, "do you speak English"? One lady said "good, because your French is very bad! No more French from you." The attempt to speak the local language did seem to go over well, though.

I would put Paris at the top of those I've visited. I did not have any problems with the Parisians - I found them quite friendly and helpful. As others have said, a simple Bonjour m/mme is required before continuing with what you need/want (and polite).
Heidelberg is a very charming university town.
Berlin surprised me the most. Very fun city and vibe. If I were younger, I would have very much liked to spend a year or two there.
