$20 minimum wage
-60% income tax
$8
-25% sales tax on the remainder
$6 an hour

With the price of consumer goods at double or more what it is in America.

No thanks.

that's a pretty important factor when you look at a lot of these socialistic countries with "utopia." not knocking them for being it, it's not a bad lifestyle, but they sacrifice money and freedom for an easy lifestyle. with that, they sacrifice a fighting force as well. Russia could roll through Europe and not have much of a fight till they hit Germany.

i hope we never find out the answer, but the US is the only thing standing between Russia, China and a big war.

Denmark also has a population of 5 million mostly similar people in terms of race, culture, and history.

The US, by comparison, has 321 million mostly different people with their own backgrounds and expectations.

But, hey, whatever can be conveniently squeezed down into a meme for the Facebook and Twitter generation.

Not sure why everyone wouldn't want to have all that in this country. Sure, we'd have different challenges in implementing it, but it all sounds great to me.

i don't know about you, but i personally love the idea of being taxed at over 60% of my income the second i make mid-middle class. i also love the idea that my kids could work hard at school and be given the same educational opportunity as an idiot (or if my kids are idiots, vice versa.) frick it, kids why even go to school? you can go make $20 an hour flipping burgers. Just do that.

i think there's a lot of positives for it too, don't get me wrong. but that doesn't really incentivize anything. i'd keep begging to have my salary stay at $54,999 forever. there's a lot of positives, but i like my chances here.

When I factor in my current tax rate, add in what I paid for daycare, then add what I currently pay for healthcare and college 529 plans, it probably comes pretty damn close to 60%.

The minimum wage part I could do without, but the rest sounds great.

So basically you're asking for the exact same thing as you have now, but just without getting a choice (the government will choose for you) for daycare, college, healthcare, etc. And oh by the way, when you're done paying for all that and the kids are out of the house, you get to just keep paying that 60% until you retire.

Dammit ... we should invade Denmark and turn it into a prison colony.

Banged-out this Dannish gal in a tent on Lido di Yeslo - great body:. 2nd smelliest patooty I ever tapped though. Guy would not give me back my deposit when I returned that tent ... he probably had to burn it.

No, I'm just speaking in generality. If some larger expenses that tend to cause stress in American families(daycare, college, healthcare, etc.) were to be offered by the government in exchange for a higher tax burden, I think that would improve quality of life overall for Americans. Throw in a solid public transportation infrastructure, and it gets even better.

So you are saying you would not suggest eating the cheese danish no matter how good it looked behind the case?

The problem with your idea Spleen is how much it will cost to get those services. Those who don't need it have to pay more in taxes but more importantly, the federal government has a poor track record of delivering cost effective services.

If you could get good services for a reasonable tax burden, most would jump on board.

Just saying ... the Danes look good on the outside, but once you dip into them just a little bit you find out that nothing is perfect - and often times it's even worse than that.

True, I don't think there's any way it could be implemented here, for many reasons. I'm just more commenting at the immediate dismissal and criticism of it by many here.

Here are the top 10 happiest places on Earth, according to the World Happiness Report. Northern Europeans dominate that chart. I mean, how can you NOT be happy with 33 hour work week and mandatory 5+ weeks of paid vacation? I found out long ago that life is all about leisure. I don't live to work, I work to live.

I love how that conveniently neglects the fact that Denmark made their "mark" in the world by dominating the Gold Coast slave trade back when most of the developed world still allowed it. It is pretty easy to have an ideal society when you get a head start in the global world by selling evil.

It the same reason I don't care to hear from someone how great Switzerland is- sorry but not every country can have the business model of subsidising their way of life with the money of Nazi's and drug cartels. Some of us have to have morals.

Do you truly believe that the US has the worst gender inequality in the world? Surely not.

The US has plenty of problems, but you have way more credibility when you don't flat out lie like that image you just posted.
