My FIL is a big redneck too but thats fine since I like shooting things and camping, fishing, etc.
Some of my best times the last few years have been passing a bottle of Crown around a campfire with my BIL, FIL and friends listening to their stories (BIL is a Dallas police officer and my FIL is a former marine).

I've attempted to get her dad into craft beer without much success, they go camping at least once a month and I hate camping....
We are basic polar opposites but we talk LSU, Saints, and we both like to people watch and make fun of people

Honestly, that's enough common ground to have a solid relationship

I really appreciate that my MIL has never tried to meddle with/alter my relationship w/ belle. Honestly that goes against her nature, but she respects us enough to give us our own sphere.
The reason it wasnt a bigger deal was because she didnt do that catty behind my back high school bullshite lots of women do, she actually came to me and we talked it out. She didnt try and start shite with her daughter about me behind the scenes.
The woman has survived a divorce, breast cancer, her second husband being murdered in the line of duty and her son coming dangerously close to the same fate. She is just so cautious with her kids because of it all and worries about them too much, which I understand more now but when I was 21 or so it just pissed me off

My FIL and I get scolded by my wife for watching and making fun of people in public. We could make George Carlin blush at times

My mother-in-law's meddling is more telling the wife what we're doing wrong. She's pretty opinionated and not afraid to share it. If my wife pushes back, she immediately shuts up and apologizes.
Funny story about mother-in-law. She's devout Southern Baptist. In the church anytime the doors are open. Doesn't really drink except the occasional glass of wine with dinner. When my first child was born she came to stay with us for a few days. She's old school and treats the man of the house like a king. Having supper ready every night when I requested(she pressed me for time), jumping up and handing me the remote anytime I walked into the living room, getting me a beer or something to drink as as soon as my glass or bottle was empty, etc. In short, it was pretty damn awesome. The last night she was there I had had a few beers and was talking with her while the wife was feeding the kid in the nursery. I told her I hated to see her go and I she spoiled me so much I wondered how she would have reacted if I had asked for a blow job. She died laughing and tells that story at just about every family gathering if she's had a glass of wine.

At the Strawberry Festival that is all we did was talk about the people we saw and the update each other on the LSU score.
I mean I want to take him to an LSU baseball game but I'm not sure how much we would have to talk about on the way their

As for my MIL, I certainly dont have animosity towards her but we've had our clashes. There was a time when she tried to be a little too involved in our relationship.
My MIL had a controlling personality, and has tried to get involved before, but she means well. It was a little annoying, but I have a laid back personality so I just let it go.

that's some awkward shite right there.

One of the best aspects of my divorce was never having to see those cold fish again. Good riddance.

True, and you'd have to know my mother in law to appreciate it. She has a wicked sense of humor despite her outward appearance of being an uptight Southern Baptist lady. We have this strange connection where we try to outdo each other with well timed provocative comments.

My wifes Father is dead and g=her mother has extreme dementia. Her Stepdad is one that I could beat the shite out of and not have one bit of remorse over. He is truly a POS.

Not married, but get along with the SO's family pretty well. We have our moments because we come from different worlds so to speak, but I haven't really had any major issues.

I could never imagine my prim and proper mother doing this to my husband.

I've got a friend whose MIL caught him and his then girlfriend doing the no pants dance. Apparently she was cool about it since he says they still joke about it years later

I love my in laws dearly.
They are really wonderful people and I'm sad to say that I get along with them much more than my own parents and prefer their company moreso as well. I love my parents and get along but there's some coldness there (see the income thread)
Minus the alcohol that's my MiL to a T. Wonderful woman whom I love dearly. Played CBB and Loves sports and will stay up late with me watching bowl games at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
My FiL grew up in Biloxi Missippi and played basketball at State. Got to play against Pistol Pete once. Great man who gave me my first hunting rifle and shotgun.
My literal only complaint with them is that they love college WBB more than any other sport and supersede real sports when it's on TV. My worst experience is when they drug me to the women's final four in San Antonio and made me pay $300 to watch my kids in the halls of the Alamodome while they and my wife enjoyed the games.

Divorce would be forthcoming with a quickness.

Just read your post about your parents. Damn, thats cold.

Ahh it's ok.
The sting is they paid for about 60% of my sister's education and let her live at home till 27.
I asked why they didn't for me and their answer?
You're smart and tough. We knew you could make it on your own and she never could.
Kinda stupid self fulfilling prophesy, but I guess they were right. My sister to this day would have nothing if they died and it wouldn't affect me much at all (day to day, obviously I'd be sad)

That's really fricked up
I cant imagine just kicking a kid out at 18 unless they were strung out on drugs or something and refusing to get help.
