I have no idea why it would be a little alarming that only a handful of sources are responsible for everything that airs on the most influential tool in the history of the world, the television.

Read about the Japanese Zaibatsu and Keirtsu if this type of thing interests you. It is the same basic things expect with companies like Mitsubishi and Mitsui (owns Sony for example)

It's not about you. It's about society. When just a few sources are responsible for every bit of information that comes through the most powerful tool in history, it should be concerning.
Then consider that the few sources responsible for every bit of news, entertainment, commercials are also the same sources that are selling everything, the same sources that are influencing your government, ect ect.
This is actually very puzzling that you don't see how this is a problem.

It is not a problem to me that I have multiple sources of news, information and entertainment. Perhaps for those with smaller minds...

Except the illusion of choice is just that, an illusion. Everything comes from a few corporations that essentially share the same goal. You may be able to flip from Fox to CNN, but both channels will keep things on a superficial level, branding themselves as opposites by playing to the likes and dislikes of their target audiences.

IIRC, around the late 60's or early 70's, the productivity gains versus worker compensation started to shift. Whereas before wages rose with worker productivity, after that point the gains started going more to the top, and wages started stagnating.

Ever watched Mad Men? It's always been that way. I took a history of film class back in the day. The Catholic Church and the banks controlled Hollywood from it inception. None of this is new.

I think the issues, as the OP shows, is that in 1980 90% of media was owned by 50 companies. Today it's down to 6 companies.

It still goes where the money is. Just because the number of boards has consolidated, it doesn't mean much, imo.
