I was flying back to the states from Iraq on emergency leave October 2003. Once I landed in the US I had to grab my bag and head across the airport. Walking through the terminal I saw Paul Wight (The Big Show). He saw me carrying my duffel bag and asked me if I was in the service....so I explained I was currently in Iraq and was flying back for my mother-in-laws (at the time) funeral. He picked up my bag and asked me where my gate was and carried my bag to the gate, thanked me for my service, and walked away.

This is very cool

Sat next to Trent Richardson in a computer science class his freshman year. He gave me his number because he wanted to come to one of our parties. He said he wanted to come to a party with me because "Julio and him just wanted to hang out with friends and not be the center of attention." I was thinking..yeahhhhh that wont happen at our party.

Anyways, it was after the Tennessee-Bama game where Cody blocked the kick. So I texted him after the game and said Roll Tide and to give me a shout later when he was ready to come over.

He calls me and said he's getting his "hair ready" and he'd be ready in a minute. Then I never hear from him again after that. He calls me the next day and apparently he cracked his tooth during the football game and had to go to the ER. He was pissed he missed the party. He kept asking if I took any girls home and stuff.

After that, we finished up the class together. He called me a few random times after that to shoot the shite. Called me while he was getting tattoos one time.

Stewart Cink was one of my closest friends when I lived in Florence for about 5yrs growing up. I'll see him at golf tournaments every now and then and will talk to him. A few years ago I was visiting a customer and took them to see the John Deere Classic and Stewart was there. I knew his wife and she was there so my customer and I walked with Lisa (his wife). This was the weekend before the British Open (not the one he won) and his caddie was already over there so his neighbor was his caddy. He was a hockey player but I know nothing about hockey. His name was Marc Savard and he won the MVP at the Boston Bruins a year or two after that.

He seemed like a really good guy.

Also, the strong safety for Bama back in 1977-80 or so was my back door neighbor when we lived in Florence. When he would come to town he knew I was a huge Bama fan and would invite me over. One day he came home with EJ Junior and we watch The Outlaw Josey Wales together.

I went to pick up a bite to eat on my lunch break a few years back so I went to the Subway around the corner from me. I pulled up and noticed this nice newer body Benz out front. I go in and walk up to place my order, look at the menu and then glance over my left shoulder and noticed a guy in a white tee shirt sitting by himself eating. I didn't pay much attention to him and turned back to tell the lady my order when it hit me. I did a double take and realized it was Fred Smoot sitting by himself. I placed my order, payed for my food and right about then he was finishing up eating. I walked over, shook his hand and told him how much I enjoyed watching him play. We talked for a few minutes about his future in the NFL(he had just been cut by the Redskins). He was a pretty cool guy, really easy to talk to.

eta: He invited me to go to some party on his boat but I had stuff going on that weekend. I told him I'd catch him on the next one but I don't think he's had anymore since then.

I met Ted Williams - had lunch with him at his daughter's house. His grandson was in my Company in the service. When I got out, I got a call from him one day inviting me over to his Mother's house in Five Points for lunch and to catch up. When I got over there Mr. Williams was there - he thanked me for helping to turn his Grandson around while we were in the service together and we all had lunch. Mr. Williams was not yet in a wheelchair full time, but he was close to it by that time. His mind was still sharp though. He followed the Gamecocks closely and even snuck to a few Gamecock baseball games when he had the chance.

I golf with Roman Gabriel every couple of months. We used to do it more often but the injuries are starting to catch up to Roman. Billy Ray Barnes usually plays with us as well - Mr. ACC.

When I was a young man my cousin invited me to Louisville for a week one summer. One of his best friends was Wes Unseld. Those were the days of the Black Panthers and riots and Martin Luther King, etc., but Wes was cool, we got stone just about every night at Mark's and Wes' apartment.

Some years later, at a fundraiser my wife and I were invited to attend by then Pacer's GM Donnie Walsh who we were friends with from our USC days, Wes and his wife Connie show-up and Wes remembered that week very well, asked how Mark was doing, etc. Good guy.

After I got out of the service I went to work on my MBA at Carolina, by then the mid seventies, and I got to be friends with a guy named Steve Courson, we called him "Cro," short for Cro Magnon Man. He went on to play guard for the Steelers during their heyday years. His roommate up there was Pete Harris, Franco's younger brother. So I went up there and spent a week being crazy with Cro and Pete, and Franco came by a couple of times. He was a big name already so when we would go down town we drew a lot of stares. Pete and I were both big boys so I picked-up a lot of Pittsburgh tail that week tagging along ... I think a couple of them might have thought I played ball too, but meh, they never came out and actually asked me so I just rolled with it.

Sheesh, sixties and seventies, those were the days of anything goes.

When I was a young kid Doc Rivers and his family moved to my street in the 80's when he played for the Hawks. Nicest guy you could ever meet, took me to a couple Braves games, during one there was a rain delay so he took me to the press box where we ate from the announcers buffet. I babysat for his youngest son Jeremiah who made it to the final four as a Hoya (Austin hadn't been born yet). Him driving me to his basketball camps and me getting out of his Mercedes with him made me the envy of the other campers. Later when he played for the Spurs I heard some high school kid burned down his house because his wife (who he has been with all this time) was white. Disgusting.

1. When I was 16 I sat and talked with Erwin Dudley at the Portsmouth Invitational Tourney for pro prospects. I remember how adamant he was that he would only play the 4 in the NBA. Didn't work out to well for him. The next year I met The Logo, Jerry West.

2. When I was 14 I came within 6 inches of stepping on Stuart Applebee's ball at Hilton Head. Not sure what the tourney was called at the time. I was walking along looking straight at my toes when I hear "Look out mate". I mumbled an apology and got out of the way in a hurry.

3. I met Randy Orton when I was flying from VA to OKC. Met him at the layover in Dallas. I talked to him while we were boarding. Surprised I was the only one who recognized him. Told me he was scared of flying.

4. When I lived in Hampton, VA. Allen Iverson used to come around a bit. I didn't meet him, but my mom walked up to him to give him my dad's(a pastor)card. She called him Alvin.

5. I built a pool table for David Macklin. He was a DB for Penn St. Was an All-Big Ten player as a junior in 1998, and was drafted in the third round of the 2000 draft.

Side Note: That company I worked for also built the pool that Michael Vick's buddies used as the training pit for his dogs.

6. Couple years ago I worked as a manager at a theater in Bham. WWE was in town and I got to hang out of with Stephen Farrely(Shaemus) and Ted Dibiase Jr when they came to see Thor.

7. Not sure if it counts but I went to college with AD's first cousin. Hung out with him a good bit.

I've met other guys here and there but can't fully remember them/aren't worth mentioning.

Barry Kraus (Alabama-Penn State 1979 Goal Line Stand) was walking around outside the Georgia Dome when we played VT a few years ago. He walks next to me and a few friends and he's writing something down on his pad or on his phone or something. Anyways, when he walks next to me I lean towards him, and say "Goal line stand!" He looks up with the biggest kid grin on his face and says "Hey! Thanks. Roll Tide!"

We kept walking. My friends were so confused. They were like "Who the hell was that?" So I told them.

Krauss was SO happy to get recognized.

I was standing next to Andre Miller of the Denver Nuggets at Sports Column downtown on Saturday night watching the Mayweather fight and talked to him for a little bit here and there between rounds. Cool dude. One of the the things I asked him was how much do the refs really bullshite. His answer was simple and clear. "A lot!"
