My daughter's 11 and I've probably spanked her twice in the last year and a half. Only one was a "bend over and let her know I really mean what I'm saying" deal. She has my height, so she's already taller than her mother, and she was being very disrespectful.

When done correctly, CP can be a great deterrent. I'm a very laid back person that rarely gets upset, so when I do use CP, my kids know "dey done done it".

Would that be considered sexual abuse?

Eta: I would never spank any of my kids past the age of 6 or 7. ESPECIALLY if they are girls

As much as it is sexual abuse when my mother belted my arse/thighs at 13 for skipping school.

It was semi-sarcasm, although when I looked it up, some parents were arrested for supposedly having spanking fetishes

but the only time I have used it is when they are blatantly disobedient or disrespectful to their mother. Kids are going to screw up, break stuff, spill drinks, etc. Those type of issues don't call for CP, imo.

AP's statement:

quote:

I have to live with the fact that when I disciplined my son the way I was disciplined as a child, I caused an injury that I never intended or thought would happen. I know that many people disagree with the way I disciplined my child. I also understand after meeting with a psychologist that there are other alternative ways of disciplining a child that may be more appropriate.

I have learned a lot and have had to reevaluate how I discipline my son going forward. But deep in my heart I have always believed I could have been one of those kids that was lost in the streets without the discipline instilled in me by my parents and other relatives. I have always believed that the way my parents disciplined me has a great deal to do with the success I have enjoyed as a man. I love my son and I will continue to become a better parent and learn from any mistakes I ever make.

I am not a perfect son. I am not a perfect husband. I am not a perfect parent, but I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser. I am someone that disciplined his child and did not intend to cause him any injury. No one can understand the hurt that I feel for my son and for the harm I caused him. My goal is always to teach my son right from wrong and that’s what I tried to do that day.

I accept the fact that people feel very strongly about this issue and what they think about my conduct. Regardless of what others think, however, I love my son very much and I will continue to try to become a better father and person.

Absolutely. I only got a paddling/whipping when I deserved it, it never happened because of stupid shite (though maybe whippings for B's was a bit harsh).

It should also be noted that one can use physical punishment on a child and still be very loving and affectionate. My parents were never mean or hateful, they always made sure that my brothers and I knew that they loved us very much.

I think his main problem was getting carried away. I mean his kid had to go to the hospital for injuries on almost every part of his body.

That's the thing. Society wants to throw the baby out with the bathwater on just about every single issue that comes along. A father goes over the line with spanking, then CP is barbaric and should be outlawed. Somebody shoots someone else, then guns should be outlawed. Someone starts a thread about ISIS, and V&S needs to be banned. It's got to stop somewhere!

Name one thing that spanking accomplishes that couldn't be done using a non-violent approach. I'll wait.
