Almost exactly the situation we were in when we had our first kid. I've got a 4 door tacoma and I love it.

Couple things I considered-We had a honda pilot that we loved, but she was commuting an hour one way to work...gas mileage in one is 23 hwy at best, plus we were depreciating the heck out of that thing. We traded for a smaller, 2004 acura tsx. Already highly depreciated, but still relatively low miles, and great gas mileage.

If I were you, I'd keep the accord for her commute, and absolutely go buy a $600 camper shell for your truck. One time expense, will pay dividends.

I'm guessing you mean cargo room, because I found the cabin room to be kind of cramped when I test drove one. The back seat was pretty roomy though, and I didn't really compare the cargo areas.

Yes-the cabin is kind of cramped which is odd because the back seat has a lot of room comparatively. When you fold down the back seat, though, and even before, you can pile a lot of stuff in it.

Toyota Sequoia. Find a low mileage one at a fair price and never look back.

Get a minivan. They're awesome. Chrysler Town & Country is the best. Ridiculously practical and you'll never know how you lived without it. Gets upper 20's in has mileage.

Congrats on the son. Get a minivan. We just had a son on the 8th of Dec, and I've already found out how much easier minivans make it with kids carseats.

Yeah we test drove the Edge, Pathfinder, 4Runner, Mazda CX-9, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Murano, and she liked the Edge best. I actually liked the Murano better and nearly bought one for myself. It was a few grand more though and the dealer wouldn't budge on price. Edge was my second choice.

Edge and Murano are both great cars. I would add Subaru Outback.

Another vote for Outback, or Forester.

Minivan is probably the correct answer, though.

Could not agree more (have the Dodge Grand Caravan - same vehicle as Chrysler).

I was a sports car and pickup truck guy that felt minivans were a waste of steel that could have been molded into something useful. My daughter came along and the wife wanted something more practical so we got the Grand Caravan.

That damned thing is amazing. Gets low 20s in gas mileage and is as maneuverable as any sedan. Easy to get in and out. If you need to haul luggage, just fold down the back seats (they go under the floor) and you've got a cargo van.

Ignore the haters and get the minivan. You won't regret it.

I don't know the difference between models, but I know what one can do to a crowd of Ferguson protestors (brush guard recommended):

its for the wife to drive right?

so do the honda odyssey

or the cherokee that rebel gator suggested, both are strictly chick vehicles that are feminine and will get the job done.

you will still need the excargo if you want to take the high chair, swing, and stroller

Have a small SUV (Venza) and a Honda Odyssey. While I really like the Toyota the wife's Odyssey is just a go to vehicle in that it can do just about anything that a family requires. Can hold large amounts of cargo for long trips, can hold half a basketball team and gear. The power sliding doors also come in handy when you're hands are full and you're trying to load it up. I don't particularly like driving it, and I don't often, but then again it rides great, is very reliable, Safe, gets about 26-27 hwy, and utilitarian.

Way to cherry pick a Cherokee that someone spent 10k making it an off road vehicle

IT'S A CHICK CAR and his wife will love it. It's a fuel efficient go get the groceries and pick up the kids under 28k FULLY LOADED, housewife or girl out if college first car. Doesn't yours belong to your wife? Men buy the Grand Cherokee SRT8

this Jeep to have broad appeal to compete with the likes of the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4.

I believe you're talking about the cherokee and not the grand cherokee. And I would agree that the new Cherokee is a disgrace and a total chick car.

However, I agree with rebelgator the grand cherokee is a fantastic car, and certainly not cheap. And the grand Cherokee competes with the likes of 4Runner, explorer etc.

Now, I would vote for the Subaru Outback. A friend of mine has one and I absolutely love its utility. Just get the larger engine. I ride a triumph t100 in the city, and an audi all road for trips. Wouldn't recommend either.

Give up the ghost and just buy a dang ol' van. Plenty of room, still good fuel eco. It don't make you any less of a man, I promise you. I've had everything from Town & Country, Celica, Gran Prix, Expedition, Explorer, Ram 4x4, Wrangler, etc and my schlong still works just fine.
